I’ve been out of running for three weeks with a lower back injury. I’m coming back to try running again this coming week, this happens to be right in the middle of my spring track season. I have a meet four days after I will start running again. I don’t know how to approach this. I usually run the mile and the half mile in my track meets and I don’t want to let anyone down but I’m scared about re-injury if I come back too strong.. How can I not when I’m in the middle of a competitive season?? Help!!??

I suddenly felt a sharp pain running down my right leg, which I believe is sciatic nerve pain. I play tennis for about three hours a day and run for one hour. My activity level could account for the shooting pain; however, no time soon will I be able to cut down on my exercise. Is there anything that I can do to ease the pain before tomorrow or even before next week?

Flat red rash down the length of her spinal cord. No other symptoms.
We went to the doctor today and he said that he didn’t think she was in imminent danger. He took 4 vials of blood and said he was checking her antibodies and then sent u for ultrasound of her spleen, gall bladder, pancreas and kidneys. Have to wait until tuesday for all results and am really needing more information. Noone has heard of this.

I was struck on my motorcycle by an unisured motorist that ran a stop sign, breaking a total of 9 bones, I’ve had 4 operations and I still have 1 more to go. My bills have hit over $ 300,000 the woman that hit me got less than a 00 in fines and is already driving again. I think it should be a $ 2000 dollar fine and they lose their auto to be sold at auction and drivers license for a year. The fine and money gained from the sale of their car should go into a fund to pay the victim’s. Once they are hit with a fine and loss of their car and license maybe they will think twice about getting behind the wheel and not having insurance. Because let’s face it, if you can’t afford insurance you cant afford to drive.

He said he’d do an MRI if the 6 weeks of PT didnt help. How can they diagnose a bulging disc without an MRI? Also, what will the physical therapist do?

My uncle passed away last week due to hospital error. He was a single man with no children. Can my family file a medical malpractice suit on his behalf? Or can only a spouse or son/daughter sue? This is in FL. Don’t know if each state is different?

Hi, im an active 15 year old boy, but since my lower back injury last year July through lifting weights, i had to reduce the amount of physical activites. I didn’t consider myself to be resting very well because i played soccer once in a while.
I had the same back injury when im 13. I just felt a little pain above my hip while walking up stairs, but it heals much faster, in 4 weeks, even after a 400m race which worsen the pain.
CAn anyone tell me how to recover quickly? Im so desperate as a soccer tournament and a fitness test is coming.

I have pinched nerve from what I can tell it is my femoral nerve. I have been losing strength in my thigh muscle to the point if I bend my knee with too much wieght on my right side I go down like brick. I’ve taken muscle relaxers, put ice on it, and have taken probably more motrin than i should have and still can’t releive the pain. I haven’t seen the doctor yet. I’m trying to exhaust every treatment I can think of before I go. I will most likely go friday if i can’t heal it myself. If someone has any other advice please let me know. If you are in the medical field and say go to the Doc that is cool too.

Around a week ago, I woke up in the middle of the night with excruciating pain in my left hip. After that night, it went away for a few days, and has now returned in the same place. I know I didn’t pull anything; I haven’t done anything athletic recently. My mother and I think it might be a problem with my sciatic nerve — does that make sense, and if so, what can I do to help it?

I have a loveable and active 3 yr.old lhasa apso. He is very much the untimate lap dog. My 3 yr.old grandson jumped onto the couch and unfortunately fell on him. He yelped and an hour or two later we noticed he was crying out in pain when he tried to jump up into our laps. It’s Sunday, so we went to the After Hour vet. Xrays show disc disease, and loss of space in at least two areas. The vet recommended confinement (crate) , steroids, and antiinflammatories. Pick him up and carry him down the steps and back up, etc. No walking around, no jumping at all. Well, he’s in his crate and whining. He ususally sleeps with me. My bed is one of those high ones and he does sometimes jump down in the middle of the night for a drink, so poor guy can never sleep with us again. It was stress to keep him quiet/still as poss. for fear of paralysis. He does have some symptoms in one of his hind legs. Anyone else ever have this to deal with and how did your dog do? Good outcomes I hope.
He did show some calcification of disc space L4-L5, poss. compression L1-L2 and L2-L3. He has decreased Proprioceptive placing on LRL only, withdrawal and patellar refelexes present as are deep and superficial pain bil. Pain on palpation of back when palpated. He whined all night while in the crate. I finally took him out and tethered myself to him with a short leash. He slept between us and calmed down immediately. I gave him pain control this am, carried him out, and put him in his crate. He doesn’t want a drink or to eat. will followup with our vet today. Thanks for all the responses! Keep ‘em coming.
saw our vet, she was in agreement with conservative care. He got alot worse last night, couldn’t stand on back legs, dragging himself, crying out, went to the bathroom in our lap. We saw our vet again this am and were referred for surgery to a board certified surgeon. He is in surgery now. Thank you for responding. My heart is breaking for him, say a prayer please.

Use your knowledge of the cell cycle to explain why damaged cells in the brain or spinal cord are not replaced.

While working in the emergency room, you admit two patients who were in an auto collision. One is dead on arrival, having sustained a severed spinal cord at the level of c2. The other patient suffered a similar injury but at the level of c6 and is still alive. Explain briefly, in terms of the orgin and function of the phrenic nerves, why one injury was fatal andthe other was not?

I got a ‘slightly’ bulged disc in my lower back several yrs ago that pretty much ended my soccer dreams in college due to timing.
I tried to train on it too early and never really fully recovered.
After about 3yrs I missed battle ( I wrestled for 13yrs), so I started muay thai kickboxing and brazilian ju jitsu. I’ve found my legs to get extremely heavy, my gate movement is shaky, and occassionally I tweak my back doing a back bridge trying to bump someone off me. Then of course, the pains that go into my hips return and the pain in between my vertebrae as well.
I train when I’m not in ridiculous pain but before I set my heart on competing i want to know I’m 110% and I fear seeing a doc who will tell me I need surgery.
Should I see a chiropractor or acupunturist instead?
