does severe foraminal narrowing resulting in a pinched nerve require surgery?
I had a CT Scan last week and it stated that I had severe foraminal narrowing resulting in a pinched nerve at C6-C7 on the left side. I have an appointment in 4 weeks with neurosurgeon. My question is is this treatable with conservative therapy or surgery?

Shana, I would suggest that you also see a neurosurgeon. The advantage of this is that they will give you the same information but with the knowledge that they are not going to do any surgery. This means that if they recommend surgery they have no vested interest in doing it. I would recommend doing a conservative program before venturing into a surgical option. Please see if these movements will help you. Sit in a chair and raise your left arm up as high above your head as high as you can. Note the height achieved by that hand. Rest that arm and then do the same with the right arm. You are going to notice that one arm went up higher than the other. Start with the arm that went up the highest. Raise that arm above your head as high and hard as you can for 30 seconds and then rest it for 15 seconds. Repeat that cycle on that arm twice more and then do the same on the opposite arm 3 times. Next turn your head to the left as far as you can and note the endpoint of rotation then do the same to the right. Again start in the direction the rotated the furthest. Turn in that direction as hard and far as you can for 30 seconds and then rest for 15 seconds. Repeat this twice more and then do the same to the opposite direction 3 times. Lastly, twist the body to the left as far as it can go and note the endpoint then do the same to the right. Turn the body to the direction which rotated the furthest first. Turn as hard and far as you can for 30 seconds and then rest for 15 seconds. Repeat this twice more and then repeat this cycle to the opposite direction 3 times. This should reduce your complaints of pain and muscle soreness. You can do these movements as often as you like but do them at least twice a day.
