I have a bulging disc – should I attend core strengthening classes?
I have quite a bit of back pain. A recent MRI shows a bulging disc is the source. A good friend who teaches Yoga recommended attending her core strengthening class to help with the pain. I attended one class several months ago before I was diagnosed and it increased my pain substantially for about a week or two.
My friend is very angry at me for not taking this class as she believes it would help with my back pain. Every hunch I have says it will make things worse.
Should I take this class?

Is your "friend" a doctor? Yeah, I thought not. One wrong move and that bulging disk goes into full-on herniation, then you get to have surgery.
Get into doctor-prescribed physical therapy to improve your core and back muscles so you can strengthen without further hurting yourself. After you get the all-clear from your doc and PT, if you want to try yoga again, then do it.
It also depends *where* the bulging disk is– if it’s in your cervical or thoracic spine, core work won’t help. At all.
PS Your friend sounds like a self-righteous moron.
