I would call your vet up and ask him about the recent changes in your dog’s behavior.
Spinal/back injuries are hard enough to diagnose: No one here on YA can really help you with something like this.
My parents’ dog hurt her back just like that a few years ago (jumping to catch the mail coming through the mail slot). She was put on muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatories for a few weeks, and then she was back to normal. Be sure to let your vet know about any changes.
Call your vet NOW! I don’t mean to shout, but the sooner you get him to a vet for possible surgery, the better his chances are for recovery. By soon, I mean the first 24 HOURS after showing neurologic signs (dragging his hind legs), you have the best chance to help him. The following website is a godsend to anyone who has dogs with back or neck problems.

I’ve had dachshunds for over 30 years. One of them ended up having surgery. He had a normal, wonderful life for almost ten years after the surgery.
Good luck!
