Coming back to running after injury?
I’ve been out of running for three weeks with a lower back injury. I’m coming back to try running again this coming week, this happens to be right in the middle of my spring track season. I have a meet four days after I will start running again. I don’t know how to approach this. I usually run the mile and the half mile in my track meets and I don’t want to let anyone down but I’m scared about re-injury if I come back too strong.. How can I not when I’m in the middle of a competitive season?? Help!!??

you need to come back into it, but slowly. you definitely don’t want to overdo it as you said, because you’ll get injured again and be out for another three weeks. just go at a tempo pace for the mile, and take it a little easier than usual in the 800. i hope you feel better, and just ice your back and take care.
A good idea is to use an elliptical or treadmill before coming out of nowhere and actually running. It will get your muscles used to it again. Don’t push yourself the first meet back either. Make sure you stay within the limits so you can evaluate your condition later.
