Dachshund with a slipped disc, he’s walking but wobbly, advice?
My dachshund Dexter has a slipped disc. He was on bed rest for a couple weeks and the past week or so I’ve been doing exercises with him in the bathtub. Anyway he is starting to walk. Before he would just drag his legs, now he puts his back legs up as normal but after a few steps they wobble like he is unsteady and usually he plops down, then gets back up. Is this normal? I’ve had to carry him to the grass a ways from my apartment because he’s still dragging a bit and on the concrete it hurts his skin.
Will he always be a bit wobbly like this? I hope it will get better..it will be probably not be completely gone but enough that he’s able to walk more easily..are there any other exercises I should do with him besides the bathtub to get his back legs strong again (ive noticed he has put on a bit of muscle). Should I encourage him to move as much as possible inside (on the carpet)? Thank you
yes Ive seen the vet twice (once right after he slipped the disc and the last time about 2 weeks ago)

I am assuming you have seen a vet? Without personally examining your dog, it would be very difficult for anyone to make safe and effective recommendations.
You don’t mention a vet at all in this, so I’m hoping (and assuming) it’s the vet who diagnosed him with a slipped disc. If that’s the case, there’s no reason you can’t call him back tomorrow with these questions. People are often hesitant to do this, and any good vet would be happy to talk to you.
If, however, you diagnosed him off the internet, all I can say is you owe this poor dog a vet visit immediately. You may have done permanent damage to him with a faulty diagnosis and if you can’t get him seen tomorrow, please surrender him to a dox rescue organization.
EDIT: Ok, if he’s seen a vet then just call him. You paid for those visits!
Muscles atrophy rather quickly when they aren’t used and since you have notice he has regained some muscle you are probably on the right path. His bathtub exercises should help greatly with that. There is no telling now how much he will regain. Just be patient and give it some time.
