Eventually most of these problems resolve on their own. Often people seek help for pain relief. Sometimes physical therapy is needed in cases where muscle weakness or muscle spasm has become a big problem. He obviously has some muscle spasm going on and can't function for long in his condition. Advil and ice might give some relief for now. If if does not show improvement each day he will need to see a doctor.

if his shoulders arent even, he may have scoliosis. many have it, it depends on how severe it is. maybe he should speak with a md about it

Ignore the scoliosis comment above. A pinched never such as the dorsal scapular nerve or its braches can cause the scapula to lower because the muscle has lost its innervation. Thus making it look like the shoulders has dropped. You should tell your BF to make a appt. with a chiropractor. It will be cheaper then a medical doctor and he wont just give him pain pills he will fix the problem. hope it helps
