Help for sciatic nerve pain due to bulging disc.?
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help relieve sciatic nerve pain? I have been in pain for over a week after lifting something and hurting my back. The doctors say I have a bulging disc that is pressing on my sciatic nerve. I don’t have much back pain, but the pain that runs down my leg is almost crippling at times. It alternates between hurting at my hip/butt, behind my knee, or in my calf. I need help!
I have been doing traction therapy at the chiropractor, and have been taking anti-inflamatory meds.

You do not say if your Doctor has sent you earlier for a CT or MRI scan, if he has not then I do not know how the hell he could give you this prognosis.
I know what you are going through as I have the same, painkillers and physio has helped alleviate the pain to a certain point.
If you have not had either done then go to your Doctor and have him/her send you for a CT or MRI scan.
The wrong type of treatment or exercises can do more damage than good and you need to have your back properly diagnosed prior to ANY treatment.
Again you do need to have a CT / MRI scan or such done before allowing ANYONE to touch your back.
Get a professional opinion from the radiologist doing the scan in his report to your doctor and then go from there.

I certainly found it helpful and you can stay anonymous.
I’m surprised your Dr. hasn’t given you any exercises to ease the pain. My only recommendation is to lie on your back bend your legs and bring the towards your chest gently. If it’s painful then don’t do it. At any rate that’s what I did when I was pregnant and it seemed to help. Sciatica in Pregnancy is very different from sciatica due to a bulging disc. Eating a healthy diet will likely help this pain, especially if you are a few pounds overweight. Get to your healthy weight by eating a healthy diet along with the exercise and hopefully your pain will subside. Also you might consider Yoga. Yoga helps posture therefore it could help eliminate the pressure on your disc. Hope this helps. Best of luck to ya.
I am surprised the Doctor did not order a MRI for a bulging disc, he must have MRI vision. If the disc is pressing on the nerve roots, you need to see a specialist.
I have a prolapsed disc, spent 8 weeks in a wheelchair.
