Whoever gave you this advice is dead wrong and they probably haven't been hit by an uninsured driver. As a claim adjuster, I think Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury (UMBI) coverage is probably the best use of your insurance premium dollars. The number of uninsured drivers keeps rising each year and you are taking a huge risk if you don't have the coverage. The coverage is so important that some states make it mandatory.

Here are the biggest problems with the advice you got......
1. Your medical coverage may not cover car accident injuries or it may only cover a percentage of them.
2. The medical coverage does not pay for lost wages if you can't work from accident related injuries.
3. The medical coverage doesn't provide any coverage for paying you for "pain and suffering" like the UMBI coverage will.

Don't skip this coverage it is too large a gamble with the large number of uninsured drivers out there.

your medical only covers about 80%
if someone hits you that doesn't have insurance it will pay 100%
it is a gamble on if you need it or not it is up to you to decide
good luck & be safe

See that box at the top that says "Search for questions"? Type in "uninsured motorist" and see how many people have asked about that recently--then decide. Here in Indiana, if you decide not to take it, you have to sign off on that decision, but I do carry it.
