I got a DWI in College Station. Is my life over?
Saturday night I wrecked my car. I was with a friend, he ran away. A cop stopped me and breathelized me I blew a .185. I spent 13 hours in jail. It was so scary. I have a 4.0 at A&M, I’m a good student, nothing like this has ever happened to me. I feel like this is the end of the world, I’m hopeless and I don’t know what to do. I know I need to find a good lawyer, I don’t even know how to go about this situation. I made a huge mistake please don’t remind me of that. Any advice, support, similar situations. Anything would be helpful. I’m so lost.

NO, your life is not over. I’ve blown far higher then you, and been arrested for DWI three times, only one of which they were able to get a conviction. My lawyer had told me I could have gotten off on the first one (which I blew.219) if I’d sprung for a toxicoligist, but I didnt have the money upfront. You weren’t in jail, you spent your 13 hours in a holding cell. I spent a couple of months in jail after getting the third DWI, since I also breached my bail, and it isn’t all that bad at all. But either way, being convicted of only one DWI will not get you any jail time, although you might get in trouble for dangerous driving (considering that you were in a car accident) I never had any accidents myself. In the end, all I ended up were additions to my record, fines totaling $3,500 with a year to pay (partially because I also had no insurance), and a two year wait before I can get my license again, and for the first year, I’ll have to drive around with an ignition ingerlock device.
Drink
Drive
Go To jail!
You are not alone. MANY MANY people have made this same mistake and unfortunately (depending on where you live) it could mean a felony on your record. Every time you apply for a job for the rest of your life, people will see it.
The best thing you can do is pay the price, do the probation, or whatever the judge tells you to do. Learn from this and move on with your life.
Never get in trouble again… Your life isn’t over, you’re not a bad person, you just made a bad choice. You will get over this. I promise.
Hi Yana. Your life is not over, however you will have added responsibilites and expenses in your life. A good lawyer will help, and you will now be made to go to classes, probally AA and others. The various expenses will be high as to include a hike in your insurance permiums. IF can approach your parent(s) with this issue, I would recommend that for both advice, support and $$$$.
I wish you the very best as you have now gotten the single biggest mistake of your life behind you.(almost)
p.s. my daughter is a jr. at A&M.. Go Aggies!!!!
ask your college friends if they know anyone who recently got a dwi and see if there’s a good local lawyer who can really work the system. not sure what they do in your state, but your life shouldnt be over. learn from this and just dont ever get behind the wheel after drinking anything anymore that’s the only way to stay out of dwi troubles.
Haha, first off, its a DUI, driving under the influence. Second, I’m pretty sure you will lose your liscense for a few months, but I’m not positive. I had an underage and lost my liscense for 3 months. A DUI is more severe than that. If the cop made you blow, then your luck of completely getting off isn’t good at all. Hopefully the judge will see that youre a good person and if you havent gotten in trouble with the law before then he might make your fines as low as he can. It wont ruin your life though, dont worry. and your friend is a jerk for running out on you!
Go speak with a lawyer immediately, it would help you with your anxiety. You making the situation worst in your mind. The blessing in your story is that no one was hurt. It can be expunged and or sealed, this is after the judge rule on the case.
If you email me with the state you’re in, I can send you a link to where in your state you can inquire about getting your case sealed or expunged. However you can’t do anything right now till the case is rule on by the judge.
Sometimes people make mistakes. Don’t worry, it’s not the end of the world. You will have to pay fines, get your license suspended for a while, maybe take a driving refresher course, or whatever, but life will go on. I’d suggest you hire a lawyer if you can afford one. Try not to worry too much. You have learned your lesson, now let the court process run its course.
You may have a long hard climb out, but you can do it. My gentleman friend drank his way thru HS as well as college. Had an accident, no one injured fortuntely, but he lost his licence. He stopped drinking at age 26, soon after his accident, & hasn’t had a drink since! He turned his life around, & parts were tough, but it can be done!!
Good luck!
Get a lawyer. If for anything, to handle the all the paperwork.
