a massive knot, any suggestions on how to get this blood dried tangle out of her hair so she can go home looking a bit as before.

My sister had this happen to her, and she did not suffer any head trauma. Lying unconscious in a hospital bed for 2 months matted her hair. It had to be cut. Do not wash it, it will hurt like hell. Do not touch it with a brush or a comb. Having all that long hair holding dirt and old blood is not sanitary. Hair grows. She lost it in the accident. clear and simple. The people who posted above me have never seen dread locks, because that’s what it is. you have to cut it.
soak it in salt water. Salt is the best trick to get blood out of anything. I would say to just put salt directly on the hair but it could dry it out, so I would use the salt water with a heavy content of salt. for further references, if you ever happen to get blood on your cloths or carpeting, pour a bunch of salt over the stain, let it soak a while and wash with cold water. It works every time. Hope your daughter feels better LOL !
It can be shampooed….probably twice or thrice to get rid of stubborn dirt. Applying a fragrant conditioner is a plus. Your daughter will be fine. God bless.
I’m soooo sorry!!! Try massaging some deep conditioner into her hair and letting it set in for about 10 minutes. Then gently try to detangle her hair. Depending on the condition of her hair beforehand it should detangle easily. Do not shave her head, that’s most certainly not neccessary. If the ends are still too tough to detangle, just cut them right above, trying to keep her length and when she can get to a stylist, let the stylist re-shape her hair.

Wash it as 2 or 3 times and then use a detangler (conditioner) to get the knots out.
Don’t shave it off! Things have been traumatic enough for her as it is. I’m sure her hair helps make her feel beautiful, so taking that away from her would just add insult to injury.
Soaking it in cold water helps - gets blood stains out of clothes too. Add lots of conditioner too. Then to comb it out, you’ll need to start from the very bottom, and very carefully comb (not brush) the tangles out.

You should cut her hair to make her feel more comfortable is she is spending time in bed. The is the least of your problems right now. Make her feel comfortable and loved.
If your daughter was in a serious auto accident and had a head injury, I assume she was taken to a hospital. If her head injury was serious, the hospital would have removed some of her hair to treat the injury. If they didn’t, then her hair is intact. Ask the doctors at the hospital where she is being treated as to the best remedy for addressing the issue with her hair.
When I was six years old, I suffered a head injury that required more than 50 stitches and a half-facial bandage that covered six to eight inches on my hair. My hair was waist length. My mother carefully shampooed and rinsed the hair that was not covered in bandages. I’m sure the process was tedious; but, you do what you can.
If the auto accident was serious, you and your daughter are fortunate all she has is a "massive knot" in her hair. If she has to cut her hair, so what. She is alive!
the only thing i can tell you is to shave it off.
or wash it. USE DAWN DISH SOAP its the best for blood.
yes. dampen the hair and pour a good amount of conditioner on it. let it sit for about 5 - 10 minutes. rinse it out and gently comb.
