if you can’t afford a chiropractor then pregnancy yoga worked for me classes are ten dollars instead of 35 a pop with chiropractors.
The only thing that worked for me was warm bath, tylenol, heating pads and the Icy Cold stuff.
I’ve had this for YEARS on and off. Try to find someone who specializes in pregnancy massage or as your doctor for some strengthening exercises for your lower back and core area. Also, ice works well as you’re supposed to avoid those vibrating massage mats as well as whirlpool hot tubs while pregnant.
I am 26 weeks pregnant and am a hairstylist so I stand all day. I have found that a heating pad, tylenol and excercising make it manageable. When I am at work, I prop my foot up on a stool and it relieves some of the pain it kinda looks stupid but it works. Other than that ya just have to grin and bear it.
I’m 34 1/2 weeks prego and I’m going through this sciatica crap. The only thing that helps me is a heating pad and lying down. Tylenol doesn’t help me. Massages are really great too. I saw my doctor today and I asked him what his opinion was on manipulating the baby to move him off my sciatic nerve. He said he doesn’t recommend that and that in most cases it doesn’t help any. The only solution to the pain is having the baby. So I guess I have to wait a few more weeks. I know how you feel. I hope you feel better.
I’m so sorry you are experiencing sciatica. I have it myself but it doesn’t stay around everyday all day. Mine can come on for 1day or more. The longest bout of it lasted 2 weeks.
I take soma only when I have sciatica pain. I don’t take it on the days that it’s not actively painful. But that is honestly the only medicine that works on it for me. Now, I did try flexeril but it just did not do half as good. You can also take a 30 minute warm tub soak and as soon as you lie down put an ICE pack on the lower back or buttock area and it seems to really work for me.
You may also want to try a TENS unit as it is VERY helpful without the worry of becoming addicted to the pain meds. TRUST ME you don’t want that. I just stopped Fentanyl and it was H-E-double LL on me. I’m still experienceing side affects from withdrawls it’s so horrible. I will keep you in my prayers. Try some meditation therapy with headphones too. God bless you! -Shell PS.. here is a link for a VERY GOOD price on a TENS unit. and GET SOME DIRECTION BEFORE USE OK?
Years ago, I had sciatica SO BAD when I was pregnant, that I used to lay across my bed in agony and just SOB from the pain. The conventional orthopedist (sp) I was sent to by my OB had me try to touch my toes (yeah, right!! at 7+ months pregnant!!) to look for scoliosis… Other than that, HE WOULDN’T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH ME (BECAUSE I was pregnant. Told me to come back, if I wanted, AFTER I delivered and charged me $180.00!!) Fortunately, I had a girlfriend who was a nurse and ALSO interested in alternative medicine ( this was kinda rare at the time….) She recommended me to a CHIROPRACTOR who was a friend of hers… I went to see him, in total despair, sure that he would turn me away as well and wary, as well, because my family was "certain" that chiropractic was QUACK!! But, the Chiropractor was WONDERFUL, did treat me and continued the duration of my pregnancy and beyond… I was VERY FORTUNATE to get referred to such a terrific chiropractor, though… I’ve been to one other GREAT one and a few mediocre, and a couple sorry ones, too… My ADVICE would be to find SOMEONE YOU KNOW who has been treated by chiropractic for sometime, and get a referral. Right now, there are several varieties of chiropractic practice. Some are almost so "automated" you wonder why the doctor is even necessary. I haven’t had good results with these. Manual spinal manipulation has always been the ticket for my aching back.. Hopefully it will help yours!!! God Bless!
Sorry I cant answer this more thourghly but you must see a chiropractor once or twice a week I had it with both of my pregnancies and the best thing ever was chiropractic adjustments it works your insurance should cover all or most of it. I am 37 weeks now but I used to not be able to walk it got so bad. I would be sitting down and could not get up like as if my nerves were fused to the chair and the chiropractor worked! Good Luck!
