Hi all. So after months of pain, plus nerve tests, x rays, etc – I got my MRI results back last week. I have 2 herniated discs in my lower back, and another bulging disc as well. Both herniated discs have arthritis in them, and one is pressing a nerve root.
I’m on pain meds right now, and the doctor has talked about doing the steroid (cortisone) injections in my back. I have heard good things and bad about those shots. Is it worth it? I also worry about being on meds the rest of my life, I’m 32 years old and in otherwise good shape. Not overweight, don’t smoke, rarely drink.
Help, someone?

My best friend is facing this in the worst place in the western world for disabled people: California. She’s a straight-A’s amazingly hard-working holistic health student with the kindest heart in the world who loves the outdoors and wants to spend her knowledge helping people, and she of all people has to end up like that.
Thank you for your help. This means the world to me and her!
She never was allowed insurance because she had arthritis since childhood. The injury was caused in an accident involving some asshole dumping a car on the middle of a down-slope road where cyclists go in the woods.

I’m an active, young, former collegiate athlete that was rear-ended four months ago. I didn’t have any problems until roughly 3 hours after the accident. The driver of the other vehicle was cited for not providing proper distance. Since the accident, I’ve been in and out of visits with my primary care physician, Physical Therapy and Orho Neuro Specialist. The specialist said that my x-rays indicate previous early arthritis. He also pointed out a bulging disc. I’ve been told that both are considered preexisting and cannot be taken into consideration if I were to proceed legally. Meanwhile, I have never had any need for any type of pain treatment for either of these "preexisting" problems. I’ve been in and out of PT and had several shots to re leave the pain and I’m still dealing with it. Can I pursue this legally? Does it make sense?

My doctor said I might have a spinal fusion so she is going to do some tests. She never said what would happen if I do have one and I want to know. If it helps she thinks I may have one because I have Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and I am 14, 15 soon. Thanks in advance for the help

I have many problems in my lumbar area that involve discs, spurs, stenosis, arthritis etc. etc. etc. And as a result have severe pain in my hips as well as my whole back 24/7. Has anyone had similar problems resolved with laser surgery? Thank you for any & all input.

One year ago I was victim of an idiot that decided that red lights are meant for running. Well, his mistake caused me 3 ruptured discs and one bulging disc in my lower back. They are also telling me that I have degenerative disc disease and arthritis has began to settle into the injuries. I now take four 10mg percoset, 900 mg of neurontin, and 8mg of Zanaflex daily (obviously not at once). I have been to 2 Neurosurgeons, one saying I need surgery and the other saying NO because I was not in extreme pain. I saw the first surgeon before the Neurontin did its magic and second one after being numb. My body has built up a tolerance to the percoset and its not taking pain away like it used too not to mention my body CRAVES it. My doctor has not switched the meds even though I have told her that they are not working. Is there something out there I can use that is non habit forming? Has anyone had similar injuries and went thru the surgery. I am only 31 and want my life back. Any advice?

My fiance’ has a pain in her lower back almost everyday. When i massage it i notice that her muscles are almost rock hard/knotted until i massage them. Her doctor has prescribed her with meloxicam which is an arthritis medicine, the medicine does not help at all any other suggestions, besides icy hot, or ibuprofen/pain meds or some sort of diagnosis?

I have something wrong with my back, I have arthritis but there is more going on there, MRI on SUN, I have had a lot of mild and occasionally severe back pain for about 10+ years. I had a spinal tap (lumbar puncture) done to check for spinal menengitis 3 months ago and my back pain is at least 2 levels worse and new symptoms are a lot of spasms and pain radiating out down legs and my arms have spasms too.
For 1, can you qualify for medical marijuana for a bulging disc causing long lasting pain? I already take a bunch of pills that don’t work and go to a pain clinic and therapy for the last 2 months and I live in MI
For 2, would it help? From what I have read I think it might. I’m already taking dangerous prescriptions and they don’t even help much, might as well give medical marijuana a chance right?? I don’t smoke but I could inhale vapors or eat it.
I do know that in MI, if you do not have a debilitation condition but have 1 or more other conditions like spasms, chronic pain etc. that you can get a med card for it but I don’t know, what do you all think?

The auto is NOT a lemon, so cannot be returned under the Lemon Law statutes.
But within the first few weeks of driving this new car I have realized, due to my condition of degenerative arthritis and spinal-disc injuries, the manual 4-speed shifting is aggrivating the sciatic nerves and pain in my legs.
Is there any provision by which I can return this vehicle and cancel the lease agreement without major financial losses, or swap this car for one with an automatic transmission?
The purchase / lease was executed on March 12. Can I cancel this contract if it is less than 30 days since signing? Is there any grace period for auto leases in NY State?

I have seen 2 neurosurgeons and they both refuse to do surgery on me. I also have had 2 sets of epidurals, the first one worked the second did not. I am in alot of pain, and the 2nd neurosurgeon told me, he felt that I had an underlying problem to be in this much pain. I have had all kinds of blood test done to rule out all kinds of arthritis. And I don’t feel there is anything else wrong. I feel like it is totally my b ack. Is there someone that can tell me that has had bulging disc, have they been in this much pain. I cannot even function or go anywhere with this pain. And I have days that I can hardly walk. I haven’t been to Physical Therapy yet, because I cannot afford it, so I was thinking of getting the exercises off of the internet and doing them myself. And advice on this. I did speak to a neurosurgeon’s office today and was told they felt like I needed a spinal fusion done. But from what I have read this is a very invasive surgery, and not easy to recover from. Also would I be out of pain with this type of surgery? Any advice will help, from someone that has been going thru this. Thanks

I injured my shoulder(torn labrum and my Dr went against the MRI report ant operated on a different area of the shoulder. Turned out that he was wrong and the MRI report was correct. I had to get a second surgery and now of much more limited motion in the shoulder, I also now have arthritis and constant pain in the shoulder. I may even need another surgery and maybe a shoulder replacement. The Dr’s insurance company is ready to settle but I need to come with some numbers first. Thanks for the help!

I’ve had pain and burning in my thighs severe enough to go on long term disability from my job. (I stand 10 hrs a day there, and standing makes it worse) I had an MRI which said I had congenital lumbar spinal stenosis and arthritis in my spine. I was sent to an ortho-surgeon. The ortho dismissed the stenosis since i’m relatively young – in my 30′s – before even looking at the mri. After looking at it, he back-pedaled a bit, but still stood his ground saying it wasn’t bad enough to cause that much pain. He ordered an EMG, which came back normal since the lateral cutaneous nerve, the problem nerve, isn’t checked in the test. The doc who did the EMG said it was likely meralgia parasthetica in the report.
When I went back to the ortho for the follow-up, he spent all of 2 minutes with me and said he was referring me to a physiatrist since meralgia was a MUSCLE problem!
Should I trust him or get a second opinion on the stenosis? Can stenosis cause the meralgia?

It was kind of glossed over for the arthritis in my back. I recently read that this can cause my whole vertabra system to collapse. Does anyone have any experience with this???? I am getting a little scared here. Thanks
these are not on the skin, but in the spine.

Low back pain results from a back injury or certain types of arthritis. Back pain is one of the most common health problems in the United States. It can occur at any age in both men and women. Treatments include pain relievers or anti-inflammatory drugs, exercise, heat or cold, joint protection, pacing your activities and self-help skills
