I was on a walk last Friday, swinging my hands, front to back, as I walked. About 10 minutes into my walk I felt my right arm getting heavy. I tried swinging my arms more to shake it off. After about 3-5 minutes the heaviness went away. I walked for about 30 min.
When I got home, I spent about 30 min cracking shelled peanuts with my hand.

A few hours later I felt a pain in my thumb area(palm side). The pain felt like it was starting to cramp. When I woke the next morning this thumb area was VERY sore. Cramping feeling. I could not grab anything or make a fist. I do have the start of arthritis in my hands my doctor has told me. I am 48 y/o female. My neighbor tells me it’s just arthritis but I think it’s more like a pinched nerve.

I made a doc appt for Wed., but this is killing me. I’ve done the ice pack but that only relieves it as long as I keep the ice on.
Anyone know any hand exercises I can do?
****I did see the doctor and he confirmed this is a pinched nerve. He got the same thing a few years ago and said he knew it was extremely painful. He said when most sleep at night they sleep with their wrist curved cutting off blood supply. This pinched nerve prolly happened when I was walking but deeply set in while sleeping. I am to wear a carpel tunnel wrist brace while sleeping for the next week. And take Aleeve for the inflammation. He also gave me some other pain meds for during the day. Thanks for any answers.

I have been to therapy but it isn’t helping. I have a herniated disk and arthritis in my back. I know the herniated disk is making my sciatic nerve act up. What is a good way to eleviate the pain?

When I was one, I had rhumatoid arthritis, a few years ago (when I was 16) I found out that I had bulging discs in my spine. The pain was intense! I got epidural steriod injections for a long time and I was on physical therapy for about 3 months at no cost to me becuase I was still a child, but when I turned 18 my Partners for Healthy Children benefits ran out (South Carolina). The shots cost about 700 dollars a piece and I obviously can’t afford that. The pain is still intense every once in a while. Any programs out there that can help me in SC or anywhere else?

Buldgeing disc’s, degen arthritis/disc disease, spinal stenosis and long term pain medications have taken its toll on weight management not to mention my marriage! Is there help?

She’s only 7 but has had spinal arthritis for a couple of years. Her buddy (other dog) died last year and her dad (my best friend’s husband) died 7 months ago. This is my best friend’s baby. I just heard about this from her. vet will keep her overnight. Is there a possibility she may have to be put down. I can’t imagine…
Thanks for the response (human physician) and everyone else too. HER VET said that she will watch her today (dog is sedated) and if not at least a little better by tomorrow, she will refer her to a veterinary neurologist to discuss surgery. Good news is, owner (my best friend) has the money for any surgery she may need…thank goodness!

A week ago something happened to me with my back and ever since then, my right leg hurts. But, my lower back hurts in one spot. Does that mean my Siatic Nerve is pinched and I may have a slipped disc in my back? I was told that a siatic nerve means you have a slipped disc?
Please help on this.
It hurt like H*ll when my back went out on my last saturday. I could not sit or stand.
I do have arthritis and a some narrowing between two bones in my lower back region.

Does a slipped disc require surgery?

I have had back pain for two weeks and I finally went to the doctor today. My doctor thinks that I have a slipped disc in my lower back. He prescribed an anti-inflammatory and a muscle relaxer. He said if I didn’t feel better by Friday that he wanted me to have x-rays done. I’m wondering exactly what a slipped disc is and if it requires surgery. My back has been so painful. It hurts to sit and stand and I have no range of motion. Are there non-surgical things that can heal my back? The pain is excruciating. I’ve tried ice and heat but arthritis rub and heat massage. I’ve taken Aleve with not relieve at all and it is impossible to sleep. I would love to hear from anyone who has had the same experience. Thanks in advance. Riley

Slipped Disc in Cocker Spaniel-Previcox?

Back in April of this year, my 6 year old dog slipped a disc in his back climbing a flight of stairs. We have lots of stairs at our house so I’m assuming that took it’s toll on him. He was put on prednisone for about 3 weeks and was much much better. Well, Sunday morning, he was following me upstairs and he started crying again. And the way he was walking, I knew it happened again. I called the vet and she said that apparently this is going to be a chronic thing with him and wanted to put him on a daily anti-inflammatory–she gave him Previcox.
My question is, I know it’s for arthritis, but is it ok for slipped discs? What i’ve read about Previcox is not good and I don’t know that I want to put my dog on it long-term. Anybody have any suggestions? Obviously, we are blocking off the stairs so he want be able to climb them anymore, but is there something for effective and safer for him? I want to trust my vet but gosh the horror stories are making me very hesitant. I love my dog and have babied him since I got him and I don’t want to do anything that will harm him, but I also don’t want him to be in pain. I know you guys aren’t vets, but sometimes it seems they are more concerned about pushing medicine and getting the freebies. Any thoughts anybody?
I was just asking for suggestions and input from anybody who had any experience with previcox. I do trust my vet but it is my understanding that this drug is new and if you read my question you can see that I have googled previcox. I wanted to hear from anybody who knew of it. My vet didn’t mention anything about having blood tests done before him taking it nor did she mention it to me at all. As she was walking off, I ask her if we needed to follow up and she said maybe do a blood test in a couple of months! I’ve never been one to do hollistic stuff mainly b/c I don’t know much about it, but if there is an alternative that is safer for him, I’ll definitely try it. The only steps he will be climbing from now on will be the 2 little ones going outside when he goes to the bathroom. I want him to still be able to run and play and if this drug is the only thing that will help him, I’ll give it to him.

Could my mom have a pinched nerve in her back?

For about the last three months my mother has been having pain in the bottom of her feet(so bad it hurts to walk), numbness and tingeling(sp), and they have been really tender. She went to the doctor today and he told her it is could be a pinched nerve in her back due to her Rhuemitoid Arthritis. Is this correct or should she get a second opinon?
LOl GY! I am not actually a nurse yet! I am only a senior in high school!

I have severe pain in my lower back which travels into my legs .
I have taken MRI’s which showed i do have arthritis . The doctors keep telling me that it is becuase of the arthritis that i have this pain in my legs. Could it be something else?.. and What can i do to eleviate the pain?
I have been taking Pain meds . I have taken everything and nothing really helps except of course Vicodens but they are addicting and i took them so long that even those are not helping so i stopped .. that was another problem and another story! ..but i have had 2 ,3series shots of epidurals ..i havebeen to physical therapy which is nioce but the pain returns as soon as i leave the office .. I am now searching for a good chiropractor ..

I have been having severe lower back pain. To keep it short I have went to the Doctor about it and she stated she thinks it could be a problem with the disc in my lower back. I have an MRI scheduled for Friday.

I have been researching causes of lower back pain and I am now questioning a disc problem. The pain is located in the very lower part of my back. It is worse when I wake up– can be very severe, like level 10. My back feels very stiff and there are times when I make a move that I will feel like a shock. If I am active and move about during the day the pain is still there, but not as severe. Then in the evening if I am watching TV, or sitting still, it will come back again at full force.

Everything I have read states that if it is a disc problem it will hurt more with activity, which is opposite of mine. If I am sitting still and not moving my back, that is when it really starts to hurt and stiffen up.
Have you had any experience with either disc or arthritis?
Thanks!

Back Pain!!!?

Since two years ago, i have had major back pains. (around my right upper back the muscle part not bones). I don’t know what it from. I have gone to the doctor and he said it’s nothing and it should get better by itself. But it hurts almost everyday!! i have gone to massages which only give temporary relief. I think it is b/c of my Bag i carry on my back, but u put it over both shoulders not just one. I feel like i have tried EVERYTHING!! i am a regular swimmer, and i do warm ups and everything!! Do u think this is serious (like lead to arthritis or something), or do you think its just b/c im young and it will get better when im older??? What should i do?
