I am a 43 yr old person that has a job requiring me to drive 5-8 hrs a day, and have been doing so for the past 5 yrs. I have never had any physical trauma or any spine related problems. I have recently been diagnosed through MRI and X-ray that I have a cervical bulging disc and in an adjacent disc, cervical spondylosis. The nuero surgeon said the bulging disc is the main cause of my severe radicular pain and I am now on short term disability (2 weeks). My onset of pain slowly began about 3 months ago but have only been out of work for 2 weeks. My surgeon thinks the disc may repair itself and so we are waiting but surgery may be inevitable. He said that fusion is 99% sucessful if we end up going that route. My short term disability pays me 100% for 6 months then 85% for the next 6 mos if the problem persists. Can someone please tell me what I would gain by filing for workers comp and some further advice?
Thanks

I have been dealing with unbearable pain for just about 2yrs. It started a few months after the epidural I recieved with my youngest child. I finally went to the doctors about a yr and a half ago complaining of the pain. They put me on tramadol and sent me to get an x ray it came back normal, so I asked about getting an MRI. I also went to an rhumatologist (RA) who diagnosed me with fibromyalgia and when I told her of the back pain she argued with me saying its just your fibromyalgia. They told me do to my insurance that I had to go through a process which was x ray, physical therapy, mri. I was all for it ,well they never did anything, so a month ago I went to my regular doctor again and told her I wanted an mri or a referral to someone who could help me ( I was at my wits end with pain and all the other suffering to much to type) so she sent me to an orthopedic doctor. They got me in the beg. of dec for an MRI and I got the results today saying I do in fact have a bulging disc. My question is do I have a chance at a law suit ?
It wasn’t just misdiagnoses they didnt attempt to do anything for a long time even though they knew I had to complete certain things to get the mri. Plus all the times they never refilled meds to ease the pain all the times my daughter saw her mother crying in pain that was so bad it made me sick, pale etc. All any one did was say o well you need an mri but here are more meds and we cant or wont do the mri.

I’m an active, young, former collegiate athlete that was rear-ended four months ago. I didn’t have any problems until roughly 3 hours after the accident. The driver of the other vehicle was cited for not providing proper distance. Since the accident, I’ve been in and out of visits with my primary care physician, Physical Therapy and Orho Neuro Specialist. The specialist said that my x-rays indicate previous early arthritis. He also pointed out a bulging disc. I’ve been told that both are considered preexisting and cannot be taken into consideration if I were to proceed legally. Meanwhile, I have never had any need for any type of pain treatment for either of these "preexisting" problems. I’ve been in and out of PT and had several shots to re leave the pain and I’m still dealing with it. Can I pursue this legally? Does it make sense?

This is the first time in my life I’ve had to deal with chronic pain. I know, I’m very fortunate. I have a bulging disc between L4 and L5 pinching the nerve to my right leg. I now have a greater respect for the people in my life dealing with chronic pain! A therapist suggested supplements to assist the healing process; in addition, of course, to weight loss and physical therapy. I have found very little on the internet that is specific. Is there somebody out there that has a success story that will help my research? What web sites do you suggest? This has gone on for 5 months. I want my life back! Thank you in advance, I look forward to reading your advice.

I found out last week i have a bulging disc. I already stopped running, working out, and i take it easy at work, but im on a softball team (pretty much just for fun cuz we suck). Should i stop playing even though im not running much? Do you think if i went and lifted weights and only did arms or other lifts without using my back, that would be ok? Id ask a dr but at the rate the insurance adjuster’s going it will be a while till i see one.

my boyfriend has serious back pain .. so bad he’s pretty much on the floor in pain every morning. he is usually lifting heavy equipment everyday. he has a really small lump next to his spine on his lower back and thats where he says all his pain is. he usually has to put pressure on it or lay at the end of the bed. i think it might be a bulging disc but im not a doctor. i feel horrible to see him go through so much pain everyday. we’re both 22 and don’t have health insurance atm .. the only thing that works for him is roxicets which are 30mg percs. i hate to say it but we both abuse them. its getting really expensive for the both of us to buy them off the street. do you think a doctor would prescribe them to him if he has such chronic pain? how get he get these prescribed because even though were addicted..i really do think he needs them if it stops his pain.. also what do you think he has?
ozone sounds expensive .. remember we’re trying to get the cheapest thing possible and preferably meds

One year ago I was victim of an idiot that decided that red lights are meant for running. Well, his mistake caused me 3 ruptured discs and one bulging disc in my lower back. They are also telling me that I have degenerative disc disease and arthritis has began to settle into the injuries. I now take four 10mg percoset, 900 mg of neurontin, and 8mg of Zanaflex daily (obviously not at once). I have been to 2 Neurosurgeons, one saying I need surgery and the other saying NO because I was not in extreme pain. I saw the first surgeon before the Neurontin did its magic and second one after being numb. My body has built up a tolerance to the percoset and its not taking pain away like it used too not to mention my body CRAVES it. My doctor has not switched the meds even though I have told her that they are not working. Is there something out there I can use that is non habit forming? Has anyone had similar injuries and went thru the surgery. I am only 31 and want my life back. Any advice?

I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis and a bulging disc three months ago. I’ve had two sacroilic joint injections (didn’t help) and one facet joint injection in that time period. Also had three physical therapy sessions and one chiro session. They made the pain worse. I’m on regimen of two doses of percocet 10/325 a day and flexeril 3 times a day. My pain is still terrible. I told my PM doc this on my last visit. He gave me the second sj inection and kept my medicines the same. He also had me sign a pain contract. I’m still in pain to the point that I can’t stand it. Should I call him on Monday and tell him or wait until my next appointment (on April 29th)? I really don’t feel like I can make it until then. What can I say to him to make him understand the treatments aren’t working? I tried telling him on last visit and he told me we would try another shot on the April 29th visit and he didn’t listen. I don’t know what else to do. I don’t want to flat out ask him for stronger meds, but I’m at the end of my rope here. I don’t feel like I’m ever going to get better or get real relief. Any input on what I should do would be appreciated. Thanks.

This was like 3 years ago when I was diagnosed with a bulging disc in my lower back… I asked the doctor then If I could still join the military and he said yes I see no problem with it as long as you feel you can do it… so he cleared me! I just want to know if this is a disqualification or can I get a waiver? Or should I just not say anything and just try and make it through basic trainig? and if I don’t say anything can they or will they find out?

I am a 16 year old female competitive figure skater and in September/07 I was diagnosed with a bulging disc at L4-L5 – and to make things worse, doctors say I have a hyper-mobile spine. I have been to 3 doctors, 4 physiotherapists, osteopaths, and chiropractors. I have had an MRI, x-ray, and bone scan and I have been treated with acupuncture, massage therapy, laser therapy, ultra sound, TENS therapy, osteopathy, physio, physio, and more physio….
NOTHING SEEMS TO BE WORKING!
my doctor then suggested to get a cortisone injection to get rid of some inflammation – however there is no proof that there is any inflammation there.
I have also previously tried to get rid of some inflammation/pain with Advil, Tylenol, and 3 medications!!!
I’ve used heat & ice and I wear a back brace on a regular bases.
If anyone has ANY advice i would REALLY appreciate it.
I’m worried about the effects of the cortisone injection!
any advice? experiences? are there guaranteed results with cortisone? help!

I have had a bulging disc in the L5 region of my spine for the last 11 months. After getting a MRI done it was shown that I had about a 2.5mm bulge which was pretty bad according to my doctors. I tried PT, took NSAIDS, and did a epidural steroid injection with no positive results. Then I went out and bought this inversion table which I used on a daily basis which alleviated almost all my pain. It has gotten ALOT better since I’ve been using this table. However, after a long day at work or neglecting to go on the inversion table for a couple days the pain always returns. Does anybody know of a more permanent solution to my problem? I do not wish to have a laminectomy and I’ve tried everything else my doctors have suggested.
I am a male 23 years old. Thanks!
