I got a ‘slightly’ bulged disc in my lower back several yrs ago that pretty much ended my soccer dreams in college due to timing.
I tried to train on it too early and never really fully recovered.
After about 3yrs I missed battle ( I wrestled for 13yrs), so I started muay thai kickboxing and brazilian ju jitsu. I’ve found my legs to get extremely heavy, my gate movement is shaky, and occassionally I tweak my back doing a back bridge trying to bump someone off me. Then of course, the pains that go into my hips return and the pain in between my vertebrae as well.
I train when I’m not in ridiculous pain but before I set my heart on competing i want to know I’m 110% and I fear seeing a doc who will tell me I need surgery.
Should I see a chiropractor or acupunturist instead?

I’ve had xrays showed a bit of arthritis, Dr. treating me for muscle strain. I know this is not that. Had several this is much different. I can bend but not for long before I feel a slight grind or (joint pop) in my back and hips. Im in PT they also feel its bone not muscle. MRI didnt show much
Work comp Dr. didnt get into specifics of the MRI. I generally have more "compressive" feeling standing than sitting. Night time is the worst pain and mobility wise.
2 years ago I had a problem where the sacral ligaments were weakened. Not sure if this relates to current problem but I’ve been told that my previous problem never really heals
Ok i got a copy of the MRI. My PT states really an mri is only as good as the person who reads it.
My PT feels that the mri may not have shown whats going on. Possible problem could be below the L5-S1 area. Also says that since mri’s are always done lying down and most of my symptoms (pain etc)occurs standing or sitting, that further testing may be needed.
Im on percocets and they dont always help. My whole left leg is still numb and increases with activity. Left foot burns after walking. Something happened and im frustrated.
My PT gave a cpl possibilities.
1) MRI only covers as far as the L5-S1 joint. Possibly since I had previous problem occuring in the sacral/ligment area
2) Inflammation still there pressing on nerves
3) Something about the "wings" of the vertebrae.
This being work comp i didnt expect to ever get healed right. But not fair I have to "live" with this because theres nothing "concrete" supporting my claims other than my PT who keeps finding things to support my complaints
MRI report:
L1-2 and L2-3 the disc spaces appear normal
At L3-4 there is mild loss of disc height and minimal disc desiccation. There is prominent anterolateral bulging of the disc on the right side. There is some minimal posterior bulging of the disc as well but no significant localized spinal stenosis is seen. No lateral recess narrowing or definite nerve root impingement is evident.
At L4-5 and L5-S1 the disc spaces appear normal. No focal disc herniation or spinal stenosis seen. No root impingement is evident.
Impression: Degenerative disc changes at the L3-4 level with a prominent anterolateral buldge on the right side. No posterior disc herniation or spinal stenosis is seen. No other significant abnormalities are noted

Lower back injury due to boxing?

ive been boxing for a while now and i was in a clench and seemed to pull a muscle or pinched a nerve. it was a sharp pain but later went away after resting it. Later that week i went back to the gym and was working on the heavy bag and the twisting motion of my hips when i threw a right punch triggered the pain again. its in my lower back on the far left side and is actually below the hip bone. When i massaged the area i could feel a slight pain shoot down my left leg and feel a tendon moving around and it seems to be the main cause of the pain. The pain comes and goes but as soon as i do the repetitive motion it comes back. it also bothers me in hockey from twisting my hips to take a shot. I was just wondering if someone knew what this might be called or maybe a cure or some stretches that would loosen up your lower back and hips. especially if its specifically for this injury.

Is a bulging disc supposed to be painful?

I was seeing an orthopedic specialist because my dr originally thought that I had hip displaysia but when the specialist did furhter testing, he saw nothing wrong with my hips and diagnosed me with a bulging disc which showed up on an MRI of my spine. But he more or less said that I shouldn’t be feeling much pain if any and made feel completely stupid for going to him which wasn’t my choice anyway. So i’m just wondering if this is normally painful or if there could be something else wrong.
I’ve been having this pain for about 9 years, however it got much worse when I was carrying my twins and now that they’re 5 months old, its worse than its ever been. I can’t go on bed rest because my husband is deployed so there isn’t anyone to look after the babies and I really get worried because lately my right leg has been giving out under me and it happens a lot when i’m carrying my children but the dr. won’t listen to me, he just keeps shrugging it off as nothing. I can’t count how many times i’ve almost fallen down the stairs with my baby or babies in my arms because of my leg giving out with no warning. It really makes me mad and I don’t know if i’m over reacting or not but I really want to call my insurance company and file a complaint on this dr. I don’t even want to think about surgery as i’m really afraid of being put under not to mention the recovery period and right now i’m all that my kids have so I can’t even consider it at this point. I just don’t know what to do.

I was rear-ended by an eighteen year old doing 35-40MPH. There was about 00 damage done to my year and a half HHR. The insurance company said they would take care of my bills at first, after several months I found out not. Most pain was in my neck and hips. I apparently bit down on my jaw and shattered one of my teeth and root, resulting in tooth removal and replacement with an implant. I missed three days of work to visit the dentist, still need to go again to have the final crown installed on the tooth. My bills so far have totaled about 00.00. Thanks

vets say my dog has a slipped disc?

the vets say my dog (chihuahua boy) has a slipped disc and is semi paralysd.
he cannot walk on his right leg, but has got feeling in all his legs and can stand perfectly well on all 4 legs but he has problems walking.
i have got some anti inflamitry tablets off the vets.
what are the chances of them working for him and him walking again?
they have said that if they dont work he may have to have surgory and its looking into the thousands. they havnt done any xrays on his legs/hips/spine but they are determind that its his spine.
what are the chances of him recoverying without surgory?
the operation is pretty risky, i want him to recover without surgory and was also wondering how long it would take 4 him to recover without surgory, and what can i do to help him?
hes only 2years old and it happend on sunday and we got him to the vets on monday and then they asked us 2 come back on the tuesday and they said he had improved, he was there yesterday and they said he improved again.
Also when he went in the bath his right leg kinda flopped out to the side like there was nothing there, but he is standing and has feeling in his legs, he isnt crying to show hes in pain or anything, and on the back of his legs theres a tendan or bone, it joins from his thigh to his little part of his leg and his right one is really elasticy and the left one is really hard, and its his right leg he has problems with could this be part of the problem? im not back up to the vets till monday.

lower back, unbearable pain, slipped disc?

My boyfriend who is 27 was lifting something yesterday and he felt this pop in his lower back by his tailbone and then excrusiating pain. He can barely walk, he is hunched over, his legs go numb, he can’t drive, nothing. Does anyone know what this could be? He doesn’t have insurance and cannot afford to miss work. Any suggestions? The pain also kind of radiates to the sides towards his hips.

Ok here’s the deal, I’m 23 years old (I’ll be 24 this December) and I had an MRI about a month ago, found out that I have a herniated disc in my lower back. Here’s my problem, I’ve always had back pain but it’s just never been this severe and I use to always see the chiropractor. I’m just upset since this is my 3rd week off of work, the pain is still in my hips down into my left leg, sometimes my left toes and at night when I try to sleep the pain is just 10x more severe. I don’t want surgery this young in my life, physical therapy seems to make it hurt worse and I don’t really know any other at home remedies? Anyone else have this problem with some suggestions? I tried putting the vinegar into my bathwater to drawl the pain out but now I’m itching like crazy since I forgot I’m allergic to vinegar. Forgot to mention, I have a heating blanket I sleep on at night but even with it being on the lowest setting sometimes it still gets too hot. I tried the IcyHot and that only lasts for so long. Plus the doctor gave me percosets (oxycodine) and I don’t like taking them unless I just hurt that bad which is why I’m on here trying to find an alternative. Help, please? :(
No definatly not over weight- I’m just right actually, I’m 5’6 at 130lbs.

Okay so no more heating pack and stay on the perc’s – awesome

Pain relief for a bulging disc while pregnant?

Is there anything? Only aloud to take Tylenol… Pain radiates to both hips and down right leg. I’m positive it’s not just pregnancy aches. I have had 2 bulging disc before. Excercise that doesn’t direct me to lay on my belly? Not many but up for suggestions.

I have been diagnosed with a bulging disc and have had flareups in the past but have always been able to walk and be mobile even with the pain. I have done Physical Therapy and have not had any problems for about 10 months. I bent over to pick up a sock off the floor and the pain brought me to my knees. I ended up on the floor with excruciating pain. It was so severe, I could not move any part of my body without severe pain. I literally could not get up off the floor because the pain was so severe. I crawled to my bed and with my husbands help got in the bed after being on the floor after 4 hours. I was barely able to walk the next day but after being on a steroid for 5 days I am doing much better. I still have pain in my hips and down my legs but my back seems fine. Is this the symptoms of a bulging disc? I have had these problems in the past but never this severe.

I’ve been sooo uncomfortable for about 2 weeks now. I have lower back pain across the back side of my hips. I know it’s just the baby putting pressure on my body, but I can’t sleep.

How did/do you help the pain?

I have a small herniation between L5 and L6 that my chiropractor showed me from a series of MRI films I gave him. I get excruciating pain down the left side of my hips and leg–it feels like sciatica because the disc is pinching those nerves.

I have good days and bad days, but every day I feel pain. I used to take mediction quite heavily but now only take Ibuprophen and occasionally a narcotic pain med if it’s *really* bad.

But it’s been over a year now since I first started getting this pain and it shows no sign of improving, even with lower back exercises to help strenghen the muscles. What else can I try?
