I got a DWI in Long Island in May 2008. Many city jobs require you to pay .00. to take a exam. I would I be wasting time and money taking any jobs for the city , state , federal or postal?

Work in a badly organized (almost criminal) company. They’ve partially covered the medical bills… and are now keeping quiet. One of my legs sustained permanent joint damage and the man that is responsible for my injury is blaming the ice on the ground when he drove the machine (he was intoxicated).

I’m kind of stuck since I don’t know what to do. I don’t know many people. As soon as a lawyer gets into the picture (and they find out), the company goes out of their way to "destroy" an employee by giving them the worst possible jobs, unpaid "days off", etc.

What can I expect that’s a must when there’s a serious injury at work? Am I guaranteed anything? Should I wait until they give me a settlement or something that will compensate my injury and then contact a lawyer?

I haven’t signed anything and I’d like some friendly advice.
Thanks everyone for the response.

I’m searching for lawyers as I type this. You guys have me scared!

Self representation for aggrivated DWI?

I cannot afford a lawyer, I make too much to have one provided for me, and my court date is tomorrow. I’m thinking I will plea guilty as charged, ask that probabtion be waved, agree to an interlock device, and request a hardship hearing (I live 25 minutes from both my jobs, and a bus would get me there hours late). There was no accident, I was pulled over for no turn signal by a state trooper.

Does this sound right? Any other tips?

Thank you so much for your knowledge.

BTW I am VERY ashamed, and there is no excuse for what I did. I’ve never done anything like this before, and I sure as heck never will again. I’m dissapointed with myself, and this is something I’m going to have to live with. I went out after the wake of a young girl and let my emotions get the better of me. To anyone who has ever been vitim of a drunk driver, I am deeply sorry.
It is aggrivated DWI because of the BAC level, nothing more.

I was charged in with DWI, underage consumption of alcohol, and distributing to a minor in September of 2007. In September of 2008, all charges were dismissed. In February of 2009, I hired a lawyer for the expunging process. I was wondering even if the charges were dismissed, could a trucking company see this on my DMV and Criminal record? I went to one of my old jobs to deliver pizzas after the case was dismissed and he couldn’t hire me as a driver because of my background check and told him they were dismissed. Can they do that as well, cause I feel like i’m being screwed?

What can I do to reduce back pain at work?

I was in a car accident 3 year ago and my back was injured. I had 4 months of physical therapy and started taking jobs that I could sit all day. I have alot of pain when I have to stand for long periods of time. I’m starting a new job tomorrow that will require me to stand for 8 hours a day and I need some ideas to help reduce back pain. Are there any braces I can get? Should I try to get on painkillers? Any input would help. Thanks in advance.

I just graduated with master degree in Dec. 2008 and am interviewing for different jobs in different states. I currently live in New Orleans and have a DWI court date in June. What if I get a job in another state before then?

I worked at several jobs in my life that required a great deal of heavy lifting. After a while it took its tole on my spine and has compacted the vertebrae in my spine (actually made me almost two inches shorter than I used to be!). Apparently my frame could not support the amount of weight that my arms and legs could lift. Any ideas how to aid this without expensive surgery?

I know that I should cut down my caloric intake, especially since I have been less active lately because of the pain. Also, I work 2 jobs, one is in an office during the day that the other is waiting tables at night time. I find the serving job to be stressful for my back, but I do move around a lot. What can be done in addition to this? Also, I eat pretty healthy already. No fast food (EVER!!!), no fried stuff, lots of veggies and fruit. I just want to know what I can do in addition to these things, yet not hurt my back and leg.
