I have a beagle with a slipped disc in his lower back. I took him in for x-rays and medication. I just want to make sure the medication he is receiving is the right stuff. What are the most common types of dog medications for slipped discs and pain management.

I would like to know what the difference is between a cortisone injection that you would have down in the doctors office and an epidural steroid injection that has to be done in outpatient surgery? Same medication?

partial injury to spinal cord?

Last november I fell from what we all thaught at the time was a stroke. I was rushed to the ER. Given act scan and then tpa medication and transfered to a bigger hospital. Now almost a year later we find I have scoliosis that I didn’t have as a kid and possible spinal cord damage. 3 years ago when I was 17 I went to the doctor because I was having pain in my neck and down my arm into my elbow. I couldn’t turn my head left and so the doctor gave me hydrocodone and sent me to a chiropractor. They sent me somewhere to get an mri and they did xrays. They said the xray looked like I had the neck of a 40 year old woman (whatever that means). They also said that the mri showed that I had a bulged disc. I had a lot of physical therapy and chiropractics. About 9 mo later they stopped physical therapy bc I could now do it at home. I have been going to the chiro since and after 3 years I have reduced my visits drastically along with continuing pain medication. I didn’t make it out there lately when my neck started hurting and it soon moved into my lower back and then my bottom rib on the back right. I went in and he said that I had displaced my rib. He did adjustments and it still hurts just as bad to walk, breath, lay down, bend down, and I keep getting these sharp pulsing pains. I go back tomorrow… but there has got to be something that can fix these issues. I’m 20 years old and I feel like I’m 80… I ache like all of the time now. Is there a specialized doctor that would be better to help fix the problem. I shouldn’t have to take pain killers forever and rely on a chiropractor.

I woke up with a pulled muscle in my upper right back area. It got worse after a few days and spread to my neck. I started having muscle spasms and had to go the doctor. Some medication has been helpful but it has now been three weeks and it is still really bothering me. I would feel better if I knew it would get better soon. My doctor said 4-6 weeks and I thought she was exaggerating. I have been putting heat on it and taking Advil.

My mom has Sciatica and she’s getting surgery on wednesday. But right now, her legs hurts horribly, and she can’t sleep. She’s taking the medication, and it’s been working, but once in a while her leg starts to hurt. Do you know what I can do to at least make the pain not hurt so much?

I am scheduled to have a second spinal fusion. My family doctor and I decided that I should get a second opinion. The neuro surgeon said that he could not help me. I went back to my orthopedic surgeon, who had by now, found out about the 2nd opinion. He scheduled me for a very painful test, one that he told me I didn’t need, and also instructed me to get my pain medication from my family doctor. I guess his pride was bruised.
It has now been 1 week since the results of the test were sent to him. He hasn’t called me to give me the results, and is now on vacation for 2 weeks. He is one of the best spinal surgeons in indiana. What should I do? I have also refused his advances in the past. This condition has been affecting me for 11 months.

Even with a nerve ablation, Physical Therapy and medication, I am in constant pain from this. I was wondering if there is anything else to do or does on just accept this and deal with it?

For example, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, any (congenital or acquired) disability that limits physical movement.

Anyone have one of the disabilities above and not have to take medication? How is your sleep pattern, do you generally sleep well?

Reason for asking is that I had a brain injury and have to be on medication for the rest of my life. Sleep is not good without antianxiety agents. Just wondering if others are dependent on meds, or if it is possible to have a disability like the above and be able to gradually wean yourself off all medication

i have been unfortunate enough to develop a stress fracture in each leg. There has been one in my right leg for six months but it doesn’t hurt anymore and my left leg is killing me, which is the new one i have recently developed. Im very healthy and i run track and cross country and i am having a hard time coping. My doctor gave me pain medication for my left leg but it doesn’t work. I feel as though something else needs to be done.

Argh..My lower back starts to hurt so much now!! What should I do? What kind of exercise should I do to relief the pain without eating any medication?

I was referred to an Ophthalmologist from my GP with a serious eye condition that I was told by several Optometrists needed immediate attention with almost daily checking. When I went to the doctor, he said it was indeed serious but didn’t explain anything, prescribed a strong medication that can cause long-term damage if taken too long and then left his technicians, who knew nothing of my problem, to check up on me only after 2 weeks after my original appt (he was on vacation apparently). They then didn’t contact me for another 2 weeks to tell me to stop taking the medication. This medication should never be taken that long (as I am told by my optometrist and another MD) and one needs to slowly wean oneself from it, which I was not told to do. Although I took myself off the medication beforehand, I want the world to know how bad this doctor treated me without litigating. What should I do that will make them take notice? Websites, complaints, etc.??? Thanks.

I am sure that you are as eager to settle this matter as I am, so I appreciate your being able to get back with me regarding my claim. However, I believe that the offer you presented will hardly suffice the damages and inconvenience I have occurred due to your client’s negligence.
As a result of the accident on March 19, 2007 I continue to have muscles spasms resulting in neck and back pain. My primary physician Dr…..has recommended that I complete physical therapy as a follow up from the chiropractic care I received. I will begin therapy next week with my initial consultation, and from that I can provide you with the estimated time and cost. Also, because the medication I was on caused severe drowsiness while awake I have been prescribed additional medication for the early hours, and for when I’m at work.
To my understanding of the research I have done and the questions I have asked my physicians, back pain from injuries involving auto accidents rarely go away completely. I will be faxing over additional documents that will support my claim, and hopefully from there we will be able to conclude a satisfactory agreement that will cover cost, suffering, and the additional therapy that I will need.
Also, I can get the cost and time for the recommended therapy, but I cannot afford to pay for it out of pocket. will i have to complete therapy before they settle?
and is it reasonable to be compensated for any discomfort i believe may continue in the future

excessive sweating after spinal surgery. why?

i have Spina Bifida occulta, i had a 10.5 hour operation in july to decompress the spinal cord and detether the nerves. for those that are familiar with the condition i have lypomylemeningecole (sp.) which is a variation of the illness.

it took 3months for the wound to finally heal. in the sense of the skin actually joined. i suffered with intense spinal leaks of cs fluid, infection, and wound bleeds. i take a lot of medication, cocodamol, diclafenic, tramadol, amytriptalene, oramorph and an opiate patch sometimes.

since the surgery when i do any walking, even if its only a couple of feet, i sweat excessively from my face, to the point it literally poors off me. i was on the same medication prior to surgery and didn’t sweat anymore then usual. i find this situation highly embarrassing, i wont go outside unless i have to as i hate people making very rude and unfair comments about things they and even i don’t understand. ive seen 3 doctors who don’t know what the cause is and therefore don’t know how to treat this. has anyone experienced this before or does anyone have any idea as to what the issue might be. ive tried researching on the internet and have come up with nothing. if i do go out, i carry a towel with me and can guarantee that within a couple of hours its drenched. it seems the sweat is on my face and my shoulders. but not in the underarms or hands which is where most people get it. anyone got any ideas?
i was treated by a neurosurgeon and orthopedic consultant aswel as a GP. Ive only had temperatures related to the recovery of surgery. I live in england so obvisouly its not a hot country. and the reson ive asked people on yahoo answers is that my doctors are at a loss as to what it is and if someone who reads this has had a similar experience then it would be helpful to know what they did to overcome this issue. ive stopped taking all the medication together and only taken the ones that i feel i need at certain times. i have been doing this for over 3months now.
