I injured my lower back in 2003 an MRI was done, last june I re injure
my back in a car accident. My Doctor said I don’t need another MRI
for the latest injury that it would’nt make any difference from the ‘03. I am puzzled by that since this is a different accident? Or is that possible
for no change to occur even if I reinjure the same area.
thanks so much for any advice.

MRI showed that all my lumbar discs are degenerated far more than my age and that they are now all bulging. dr recommended an epidural guided by live xray. does anyone have knowledge or experience that would be helpful??

I read this story here:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080422/ap_on_re_us/unwanted_exam_5
and I am not a medical professional, so I can’t figure out why a rectal exam would be helpful. Wouldn’t an MRI or an X-Ray be more conclusive to ruling out any spinal column injury the construction worker may have sustained?

What do they do for an older person that falls and has a compression fracture in their lower spine?
How do they diagnose this? If it is Xray can MRI pick up more breaks that Xray missed? How long would they usually give a person OFF work to heal? Would they use a back BRACE or therapy or something? What would the pain exactly feel like?
If you can answer all these questions- u get 10 pts!

Hansens Type II spinal cord surgery on 9/2. Was doing great until this am and his condition has regressed. MRI shows second disc rupture and hematoma. Vet said there is possibility of spinal cord death-meaning I would have to euthanize him tonight.

If someone has suspected MS is a lumbar puncture always needed for a diagnosis, or can an MRI sometimes be enough? If so,how often is a lumbar puncture needed?

I have a bulging and torn disc in my lower back L5 S1. I also have mild scoliosis and bad sciatica. I have numbness in my left foot and leg that seems to be getting a little bit worse. I had my last MRI in April of 2007. When should I have another one?
I saw a Neurosurgeon when I got the MRI and he said that I would not be a candidate for surgery. My family doctor tried to reorder another MRI for me a few months ago, but I was worried about the cost and did not go through with it. She has a tendency to over treat me sometimes.

I recently got diagnosed (through MRI and X-Ray) with a bulging disc in my lumbar (low spine) region as well as minimal degeneration of one disc in the same area. I’m looking for answers from those who have personal experience with pain management. I’ve done research so I don’t need websites explaining what these things are, just input on what others have done to manage the problem. I’m already on NSAIDs and do not want to resort to any injections as of now. So non-medicinal advice would be most appreciated.
I’m a young adult, a competitive horseback rider and I am active in core strengthening classes such as pilates and yoga. I cannot physically lift weights because of a previous shoulder injury. I am also currently in a physical therapy program.
Thanks!

Okay since my last question I’ve received the results from the MRI which shows that I have a bulging disc. I’ve gained a lot of weight in the last year and am now dieting to lose it. Will this alleviate the pain and/or shrink the bulging disc? It takes a month to get an appointment with my doctor and I’m just wondering now. I’m scheduled for a visit with the neurosurgeon and want to avoid surgery if possible. Any advice? Please help. I weigh 225, am a female at 5′6 and just take 30 minute walks for exercise to help release some of the pain I feel. I was 195 lbs. but gained the weight after pregnancy which ended in miscarriage and depression. I’m back on track now but afraid. I know that the weight didn’t cause the problem but I’m wondering if losing weight will resolve it somewhat. The pain radiates down my right leg but feels better after I walk…sitting makes it feel worse. I’m 43 years old and a teacher. I used to wear heels to class everyday but won’t do that again.

I have a bulging C5/6 disc was wondering what the chances are of having more lower down. My MRI and X-ray were of the cervical region only.
I have a lot of pain down my right arm wrist and elbow, left sometimes but right moreso, also alot of numbness into my fingers. Headaches, .
Sometimes i get a shooting pain down my left leg, this only happens occassionally.

I was seeing an orthopedic specialist because my dr originally thought that I had hip displaysia but when the specialist did furhter testing, he saw nothing wrong with my hips and diagnosed me with a bulging disc which showed up on an MRI of my spine. But he more or less said that I shouldn’t be feeling much pain if any and made feel completely stupid for going to him which wasn’t my choice anyway. So i’m just wondering if this is normally painful or if there could be something else wrong.
I’ve been having this pain for about 9 years, however it got much worse when I was carrying my twins and now that they’re 5 months old, its worse than its ever been. I can’t go on bed rest because my husband is deployed so there isn’t anyone to look after the babies and I really get worried because lately my right leg has been giving out under me and it happens a lot when i’m carrying my children but the dr. won’t listen to me, he just keeps shrugging it off as nothing. I can’t count how many times i’ve almost fallen down the stairs with my baby or babies in my arms because of my leg giving out with no warning. It really makes me mad and I don’t know if i’m over reacting or not but I really want to call my insurance company and file a complaint on this dr. I don’t even want to think about surgery as i’m really afraid of being put under not to mention the recovery period and right now i’m all that my kids have so I can’t even consider it at this point. I just don’t know what to do.

I am a healthy 63 yo. male, Mri-diagnosed with a pinched nerve in the C-5 disk. This results in pain in both shoulders. I’ve had 2 cortisone shots in the back of my right shoulder and 2 epidural injections in the disk, with no relief.
Over the counter meds and prescription drug Ansaid haven’t helped.
I’m considering a Chiropractor.
So much for the retirement years!
Any suggestions….I want to play golf again

My wife messed up her back, we believe its some sort of inflamation related to a possible ruptured disc or something of that nature, the pain is very severe at the moment. she saw a chiropractor and he is reccomending adjustments , but since they cannot write prescriptions, who should we see next for not only a prescription but a 2nd opinion…. I would go thought the normal channels that most people go thru but I dont have medical insurance and dont really want to pay for each shuffle to "someone that knows more about this stuff" …. I understand that an MRI will give a good picture of what is wrong but those are very expensive.
So what kind of doctor should we seek that can give a good diagnosis / second opinion, as well as prescribe Anti-Inflamitorys and give tips for recovery.
