Im 16 and a Junior in high school. About a year ago I ran cross country and started having problems with my right shoulder. A few months later I started soccer and I turned my heads back and it popped. I couldn’t move my neck in any direction except to lay flat on my right shoulder. It was VERY painful to move it in any other direction. I also had to use a sling for my right arm because I couldn’t support it after popping my neck. A few months later my neck popped again and I had the same problems. I couldn’t even sit myself up in bed and it lasted for about a week until I had reasonable movement. After the second popping in my neck I had the same problem in my left shoulder like my right. I went to the doctor a month ago and he scheduled me for an MRI. During the time period from April to the doctor appt. in November it hurt to put my chin to my chest and when I did that I felt it in my lower back. About 2 months before the appointment I had a numb feeling from my shoulder to my elbow. A few weeks later it went into my other arm. I went to the doctor and like I said I got scheduled for an MRI. While I waited to get an MRI I got numb feelings from my elbow to my finger. I got my MRI and the results showed I had a bulging disc. He had me take therapy for my shoulders 3 days a week. I was told my neck would heal over the year. This was not good news because of soccer coming up. I kept going to soccer practices and had trouble putting my arms on my head to breathe. I lost circulation fast and had trouble breathing. Im still having these problems and my friend told me her doctor said that with bulging discs whatever your doing you need to stop because I was irritating it. I stopped socce for the past week and only have therapy 2 days a week. I took tylenol during practices and it wouldn’t help and I have to take tylenol at least 7 times a week for my back. Now im not sure what to do and my coach is telling me to play thru the pain, but it is VERY painful. Any ideas?

I have a bulging disc in C-5/C6 and the MRI showed no nerve compression of any sort. However, the neck is supposed to be curved and mine is abnormally straight. I still have full range of motion and flexibility, but not in my right shoulder right now…I was in a car accident about 2 months ago. For the past two weeks I have not done anything to bring on this intense shoulder pain that radiates down to my elbow and sometimes into my hand. I was prescribed muscle relaxers and NSAID’s but they do not help at all! I see a chiropractor, physical therapist, massage therapist and my MD on a weekly basis.I feel like the pain has gotten significantly worse over the past two weeks and I am getting a lot more headaches as well. Can a rupture be causing this pain? How can I tell if it ruptured? Is there anything else I can do to alleviate my pain?

I need advice on a bulging disc.?

I haven’t had mri’s to confirm but my chiropractor and 3 er doctors have all said that what I have is a bulging disc. But none of them have really gave me definitive information on it nor does anything from googling help. I’m having to fight with Worker’s comp and now hire an attorney because they are denying the claim. I hurt my knee april 29th and had to walk with a cane/limp etc for nearly a month. It was about the last week that I started experiencing back pain. I thought it was just normal back pain so I went to the chiropractor. She looked at my back and without even touching it told me I have a bulging disc at my 5th lumbar. I realize that sounds odd that she said that without even touching me, but you can literally see it when standing behind me. There’s a bulge that looks about like a golf ball sized oval *estimate* pushing out about 1/2 inch from skin level. There is also what looks like a light black bruise all around the area that’s been there since this started around june 1st. Anyway, my chiropractor and the 3 er doctor’s i’ve seen so far have all said that since I haven’t done anything to physically injure my back the most likely and probable cause is the strain and pressure caused by limping and shifting my weight constantly off my injured knee *the injured knee was the left knee btw* The bulge is on my right side, about an inch, inch and a half above the top of my buttocks and seems to be somehow affecting my right leg because if it twinges even slightly, i have what feels like a large needle shoot down from my right hip to my right ankle and have a loss of sensations in my leg at random times. I’m mainly just looking for some insight. What to do, what can happen, what it all means, why it is effecting my leg like it is, etc. I hate taking pain meds, i’ve always thrown scripts away or told the doctor not to bother writing them because i don’t take them, but I’m in so much pain i’ve broken down and taken ultram and even two 50mg ultrams is not doing more than a tylenol for a migraine. What can I do for the disc and would it be pointless to acquire an attorney to fight worker’s comp? I’m really confused and just need a little insight. Thank you, sorry it was so long.

I was in a car accident back in September. I was at a stop light, with 2 other cars in front of me. The lady behind me had atleast 1 and a half car lengths. She was stopped also. The light turned green, the first car proceeded through the intersection, the second car moved up to make a right turn, i moved up no more than 5-7 feet. and then WAM. My car was slammed by the lady behind me. She totaled my car, I have been to a chiropractor, now I am in physical therapy awaiting to see whether or not a MRI is going to be ordered. I have had and still have to this moment Low Back Pain, and Neck pain. The other ladies insurance have been taken care of me as far as being off work, medical expenses, etc… I dont feel like I need a lawyer simply because my main concern is getting back to pre-injury status. Which is what the insurance company says is there goal. It has been a pain in the neck but I dont see being sue crazy as number one. What should I expect from here on out? I dont know if I will ever be back to normal, as I have released all previous medical history to them because I never had any medical history.
Sorry, The second car stopped while yielding for a pedestrian.

In layman’s terms, what is a lumbar disc extrusion?

I had an MRI that indicated I have an L5-S1 degenerative disc disease with right lateral recess and proximal foraminal annular tear and extruded disc material with probable right S1 nerve root compromise. What does this mean?
I kind of injured it….I twisted in a strange way and heard a pop..have had pain since…on the lower right side and down the right leg.

sciatic pain without lower back injuries?? help!?

i have sciatic pain with no lower back injuries (have had mri’s done) its been 3 months now and no improvement. tried chiropractor; p.t. acupuntured and massage therapy. i’m defeated..anyone???

i have had sciatica for 3 years now,3 mri’s,too many doctors to keep count and i still have no answers. my life has been taken over by pain killers. my mri’s show that my back is in almost perfect condition. my left leg burns from my hip all the way to my toes, like a red hot piano wire.

I’m not sure if my back injury is serious or not. I’m a 13 year old girl, and 4 months ago, in one of my basketball games, i took a hard hit and fell on my back awkwardly. It still hurts to this day. When I walk, part of like my lower spine pops…
I’ve tried everything, ice, heat, ibuprofen… nothing has worked, and the pain is sometimes unbearable.
My mom is taking me to the doctor tomorrow, and we were informed that I will probably need and x-ray or MRI.
Any ideas on what this could be? Also, I visited the doctor a day after the game i was injured in, and they said it was like a muscle thing. Except, it doesn’t feel like the muscle that hurts, it’s like my spine…

Can lumbar stenosis cause meralgia parasthetica?

I’ve had pain and burning in my thighs severe enough to go on long term disability from my job. (I stand 10 hrs a day there, and standing makes it worse) I had an MRI which said I had congenital lumbar spinal stenosis and arthritis in my spine. I was sent to an ortho-surgeon. The ortho dismissed the stenosis since i’m relatively young – in my 30′s – before even looking at the mri. After looking at it, he back-pedaled a bit, but still stood his ground saying it wasn’t bad enough to cause that much pain. He ordered an EMG, which came back normal since the lateral cutaneous nerve, the problem nerve, isn’t checked in the test. The doc who did the EMG said it was likely meralgia parasthetica in the report.
When I went back to the ortho for the follow-up, he spent all of 2 minutes with me and said he was referring me to a physiatrist since meralgia was a MUSCLE problem!
Should I trust him or get a second opinion on the stenosis? Can stenosis cause the meralgia?

and for 9 years dealing with pain with MRI’s and xrays saying nothing was wrong but now all of the sudden the MRI says I have mild arthritis of the lumbar spine and the doctor put me on Voltren and then Mobic but to be honest it really doesn’t help but dull the pain…I still walk hunched over and I’m 32 years old I feel older…is there something I should be telling these army doctors as they just tell me thats all that can be done? thank you any advice would be great!

I do not want a chiropractor(been there done that).I have had MRI"S and catscan’s before but something is wrong and I don’t know what kind of doctor I should be seeing.I have never stayed the same after a car accident.

Soldier with Spinal injury…I need the truth!!!?

I was injured in Iraq the in 2003…since I have went thru lots of treatment….I had phisical theropy, electric some-thing, chropractor, Spinal injections, root sleeve and have seen a neuro surgeon, had 3 MRI’s….the MRI’s say
1. T5-6, T6-7, T8-9, are herniated
it says….the worst is T8/9 it is the greatest…it says the protrusion effacesthe thecal sac anteriorly and abuts the thoracic cord.
2. L4-5, and L5-S have broad based disc bulge with no significant canal or foraminal stenosis apperciated on either…

I have tried to tough this thing out…but at first it was alot of pain with some down my left leg….and after alot of injections I even deployed back to Iraq for a second tour…
Now I have been feeling lots of pain in my chest….like a heart attack….
I am asking for some quality advice…
This injury hurts all day every day…now you add my chest…hip and leg hurts…
I just don’t know what they are gonna give me for benifits…and I just had my 1st baby

Any ideas for back injury from car accident?

I was in a car accident May 6, 2008. I injured my low back and the pain is getting worse. So bad that it’s becoming unbearable. I have done Chiro, Message Therapy, Currently Physical Therapy. No broken bones and MRI showed a couple bulging disc but very minimal. He said it was not be causing this kind of pain. The pain is so BAD in the low back and down the right leg along with numbness and feeling like i’m going to fall when i walk. There are times where it goes to the left but majority down the right. There is not a position i can find where it gives me relief. Does anyone know any good back doctors or have any suggestions. it’s all covered under the car insurance, but this is getting worse by the day. It’s even getting difficult to walk. I see a pain specialist tomorrow, but i’m feeling depressed and hope they find what’s wrong and give me some relief but in the meantime any help would be appreciated. I need help!!!!

I was rear ended while stopped with my foot on the brake at a yield sign craning my body to the left to wait for oncoming traffic. A recent MRI has shown that mild disc bulging in my cervical spine with evidence of CSF visibility. I also have bulging in my T12-L1 along with herniations at the T11-12 and L4-5, which are flattening my thecal sac with fluid in my facet joints. I have awful pain in my back, and I find it impossible to sit in my task chair for more than a few minutes. Driving my standard transmission suv is painful, and comfortable sleep is now just a pleasant memory. I have 22 days until I am able to see the specialist, and I hope to find suggestions and/or answers to my problems. Pain management drugs make me uncomfortable, and what I really want are suggestions for exercises that might enable me to sleep without pain. It is so intense that I have actually been dreaming about this pain because I make it bearable even for sleep.

Fell on the cement 2 weeks ago. I went to urgent care. They said there was a lot of swelling but thought it was siatica. (no mri was done) Now in my spine it popps all the time and it still hurts down my left leg and into my foot(from my buttocks) Anyone know why that could be?
