I’ve asked in pain management, but no answers yet. All discs in my lower lumbar L1-5 are in bad shape. My options are 4 weeks of therapy and brace to see if that helps, if not, then spinal epidural, if not that, nerve ablation, and surgery is in the equation, but he feels I am not to that point yet. Anyone had the injections or the nerve ablation that can share information? On a level of 1-10 my average pain is 7-8 and can elevate to 10 when I am running errands and housework. Should I skip the therapy and go right to the injections or nerve ablation for more relief though the pain will come back sometime and require more shots and ablation. The pain is in its 3rd year, and I’m at my wits end. Anyone that has had any of these treatments or even surgery? I don’t mind the therapy for the 4 weeks recommended, but also don’t want to get into therapy every week the rest of my life. My PA said after 4 weeks we would reevaluate and if therapy isn’t working move on to another treatment. I’m holding him to that. Anyone that can share their experience also about spine fusion?
Anyone had any adverse reactions to the steroid? The PA said it is a small amount, and if it was orally then it could cause weight gain, but not in the injections. I hope I’m not wasting 4 weeks in therapy when I could get relief by injections or the nerve ablation. It’s a guessing game without going through the therapy first. I suppose 4 weeks isn’t that long, but I’m also dealing with a deductible that has been met this year until Jan 1.
Mary P he suggested when the time came a spinal fusion. Not sure if that is what you mean, but I will look up what your husband had. I really do appreciate everyone’s help and advice. This is a major decision for my husband and me, and it means a lot that you all take the time to help out. God bless
Yes it is, Poppy. I don’t know what I would do without him.

What are pinched sciatic nerve symptoms?

What are pinched sciatic nerve symptoms? Can you tell me or point me to something that describes the causes of sciatica?

Technorati Tags: , , , , ,

I’ve had several serious injuries. A motorcycle accident, separated left shoulder playing Hockey, separated right shoulder playing Football.
Anyway, now I get pains in my neck/shoulder/back fairly often, and it appears to be a nerve, as I can almost trace the line of pain.
What is the best thing to do without resorting to medication?

1. what is the special name of the nerve that carries the impulse from the receptor to the brain or spinal cord?

2. what is the given name to the nerve that carries the impulse from the brain or spinal cord to the effector?

pinched nerve?

Yesterday I was at work for 9 hours, and I wore some flat shoes that eventually made my foot/legs hurt. After I got the shoes off last night, my toe started to feel weird. It’s not really numb, but kinda tingly I guess. I think maybe I pinched a nerve in it? I walked up flights of stairs and climb ladders (I work in a shoe store) all day, so I did do a lot with my feet…I also haven’t worked a 9 hour shift in those shoes before. Is this what happened? It still feels funny today. Is there any home treatments for this? Thanks

A few months ago I was in a car accident and a week later I began to feel a numbness and tingly feeling in my upper back a few inches right of my spinal cord. The feeling only comes occasionally when I am sitting a certain way and does not cause any weakness. Could it be and issue with a nerve? Are there treatments to permenately aliviate the problem? Thanks.

Lower back injury due to boxing?

ive been boxing for a while now and i was in a clench and seemed to pull a muscle or pinched a nerve. it was a sharp pain but later went away after resting it. Later that week i went back to the gym and was working on the heavy bag and the twisting motion of my hips when i threw a right punch triggered the pain again. its in my lower back on the far left side and is actually below the hip bone. When i massaged the area i could feel a slight pain shoot down my left leg and feel a tendon moving around and it seems to be the main cause of the pain. The pain comes and goes but as soon as i do the repetitive motion it comes back. it also bothers me in hockey from twisting my hips to take a shot. I was just wondering if someone knew what this might be called or maybe a cure or some stretches that would loosen up your lower back and hips. especially if its specifically for this injury.

information on a bulging disc in the lower back?

After my MRI, I was diagnosed with a bulging disc in my lower back.
I have had pain and numbness in my feet since June.
How long can this take to heal.
The doctor suggested ‘traction" to try and stretch my spine and get the disc off the nerve. Does this work?

pinched nerve?

I pinched a nerve between my left shoulder blade and my neck last night, how I did it I don’t really know…was messing with the guitar for a bit then 2 hours later it started. I took some Advil and went to bed, decided to tough it out today at work, took some Advil this morning and the pains still there. Oddly though, I’m getting some shooting pains through my left arm, and I figure that can’t be good. Any ideas if that’s normal?

II was in a car accident in Jan. The driver came over in to my lane hitting me and forcing me up over the curb. I was not in a lot of pain til later that night. The next day i woke up and couldnt move my head. I went to the hospital and they said my collar bone and it was bruised (huge lump comming out of it) and a Severe neck sprain. xrays were neg. They told me to consult my physician the next day. I got a referall for PT from my Doctor and started going the next week. I was in physical therapy for 12 wks. I am doing better, but I wake up with stiffness and tingling in my first 3 fingers every now and then. They said to expect this for a while because it may swell and press on the nerve for a while.
I want to settle this and be done, I have been paying 250$ PT pmts every wk for 12wks and missed work, events and have woke up in pain for 4 mos. Since I am feeling better I just want to move on. What kind of settlement should I expect or accept? I have no idea what is fair….
I am not out to make money, and I am not looking for a million bucks. I just want to know a range to expect so that I know if I am being treated fairly by them.

It has been a nightmare and I would like to just move on!

Also:
I have pics of the car damage, the injuries, the lump and bruising on my collar bone as well as the protruding lump I had on the curve of my neck.

Also, the driver admitted full responsibility for not seeing me in the lane next to him.

Does a pinched nerve have to be treated?

My boyfriend is 17 and he pinched a nerve in his neck. He says it will just go away but I’m not convinced. He can’t move his head or neck other than left to right. His left shoulder also hangs lower than his right. I’m afraid that if he doesn’t get it treated he will be stuck like that. Should he have it treated or will it heal on it’s own?
I know that it can be treated but does it have to be? Because she isn’t going to go see anyone about it. He is stubborn and is sure that it will be okay.

This all started about a month ago. I had a horrible pain in my thigh. It’s a throbbing pain that radiates from where my leg and butt meet and again about 5-6 inches above my thigh, on the backside. It is deep within the thigh, nearer to the bone. I wake up in the morning with it throbbing and sore and as the day progresses, it feels better and no pain at all unless I push on those spots. Motrin does nothing, tylenol and aspirin tend to help the best. About 2 weeks ago, I stated getting numbness and tingling all down the back of my leg from the bottom of my butt to my heel. I went in and saw one of the nurses under my doctor. She thought I had a strain in my lower back (which is not hurting at all) and it is putting pressure on my nerve (most likely the sciatic). They took a bunch of xrays on my lumbar region and they didn’t show anything abnormal. I was put on a 7 day steroid and muscle relaxers. On day 4 of my steroid pack, my heel went numb, not the skin, but the tissue underneath (it’s been numb ever since). The muscle relaxers did nothing for me, they barely even made me sleepy. Every time I stand up and even sometimes when laying down if I flex my leg, I get shooting tingling and numbness all the way down my leg from butt to heel. I called the nurse back, now she thinks I have a slipped disc and is ordering an MRI.

Now, my questions is, what is with this pain in my thigh? It’s not getting any better, it was my first symptom and this nurse doesn’t seem to think anything of it. By the time I saw her it was 3 pm and my thigh wasn’t hurting at all. However, every morning I wake up and it’s killing me. Some nights it wakes me up the pain is so bad. I am thinking the problem started with my thigh, so its more likely that this is the cause of my sciatic tingling. I plan on going back in, this time seeing my doctor and not the nurse for a second opinion. Not that I have anything against nursepractitionerss, infact, I prefer them to an OB. I just think there is something wrong with my thigh and want another opinion.

Can a slipped disc cause this much pain in your thigh? I have no back pain whatsoever, so I’m not sure I agree with her. I would compare the pain to a strained muscle, but it’s been over a month, I have been taking it easy (I’m a stay at home mom) and the pain is not getting any better, so I’m thinking its not a strained muscle. Feel free to ask anymore questions, I’ve tried to be as informative as I can. Thanks!
