What to do about a herniated sciatic nerve (sacral 1)?

What are the treatments/cures/pain reliefs that can be done and their risks.
I’m pretty sure it’s s1, and the ‘patient’ believes it was herniated.
definitely the sciatic nerve.
the ‘patient’ also had sciatic nerve pain about 5 or so years ago when it was injured or pulled in basketball.

I went to webmd and there’s nothing there about treating sciatic nerve pain with depo-medrol. It was 1cc injected IM (my hip). What can I expect as a result of this shot? Am I going to gain weight? Can I still take my Prozac in conjunction with (I forgot to tell my doctor that my gyn has me on Sarafem)?
Thanks for your kind and informative responses.

So i have been diagnosed with Sciatic nerve pain and my baby is right on top of it. I only get the pain in the middle of the night and it goes away when i stand up but of course i cannot stand up all night so i was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what helped them. I cannot see a chiropractor or physical therapist because my insurance does not pay for it!

Sciatic Nerve?????

What does it feel like when you have sciatic nerve pain????

Back injury, not sure….?

I have a chronic back injury, however not sure what is wrong. I haven’t had an MRI yet, but will be soon. I am becoming rather impatient as i am unable to stand or sit for long periods and i can’t do exercise due to pain. Its especially frustrating because it is interfering with my dreams of becoming a police officer.

I have pain in my lower back, on the left side of my vertebrae. I get pain down my left leg, not sciatica pain though its muscular, i also have pain in my left bunion, and i am aware of this pain as i have already had surgery on my right bunion due to excessive pain, and unable to walk properly. I get nerve pain down into my groin, and around the side of my back. I am not sure if all these issues are related, but all i can think, is that they are.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

My wife has been suffering with massive pain (level 10) in her left buttock and often times it runs down her sciatic nerve as nerve pain. She has been suffering for over 10 years now and it does come and go, but never completely goes away. She has had the epideral injections etc but only gives temporary relief. She had left knee surgery when she was 13 and I was trying to see if there is a connection. Also, could anyone recommend a website that people with similar experieces share their thoughts and relief efforts?

Any quick remedies for sciatic nerve pain?

I suddenly felt a sharp pain running down my right leg, which I believe is sciatic nerve pain. I play tennis for about three hours a day and run for one hour. My activity level could account for the shooting pain; however, no time soon will I be able to cut down on my exercise. Is there anything that I can do to ease the pain before tomorrow or even before next week?

I was told by a friend that women who experience sciatic nerve pain that is felt in the butt is typically a sign that the baby is a boy. Does this seem to be true or a wrong assumption? I haven’t read anything that backs it up.

I am 24 weeks pregnant and having sciatic nerve pain. I had it with my first pregnancy as well and know how much worse its going to get! I need some at-home type remedies, as I just can’t afford to see a chiropractor.

My girlfriend has RSD. After many surgerys doctors decided to go with a spinal cord stimulator for her arms and legs. Her legs seem to be in much better pain-free atmosphere, her arms are extremely in chronic pain. She is on oxymorphone and oxycontin to control the pain but we are hoping for an alternative method. I have read about a dynatron sts machine for nerve pain. Would this be a solution considering she already has a spinal cord stimulator?

FRUSTRATED! 4yrs ago or so i visited an ortho that ran an mri and then handed me a referral told me he couldnt do anything for me… this was the largest ortho outfit in the city that handles the pro football players etc…. theyre all about marketing… why they wouldnt handle my disc injuries is beyond me.. im glad though because i couldnt understand the dudes broken english lol… anyway, i thought why is he sending me too pain mgt ie. pain pill mill…. they arent in any innovative in surgical techniques.. in fact, i had too obtain a printout from a pharmacist describing new meds like 15mg, 30mg oxycodone tabs that contain zero tylenol… the pain doc argued that i was wrong and that he was giving me 10mg tylenol loaded percocets 10x a day.. no way! he said they didnt make 15,30mg stuff.. anyway, im on 10 of the 15mg oxycodones a day and im tired of pills.. im tired of lyrika ( anti seizure med used for nerve pain) im tired anti inflammatories…. part of this is due too the fact that ive exhausted physical therapy, epidural injects, chiro care, and all im doing is graduating each year on pain meds to a stronger dose… ive been offered fentanyl, oxycontin, methadone, none of which i wish too endure… never! i dont know anymore if a pain pill clinic is for me? the top doc is an ortho surgeon and if you ask me, a man with a hammer will hit anything that looks like a nail… just like this dude, hes an awesome caring doc but hey, is surgery the answer? everyone ive met thats had back surgery, from laminectomies to minimally invasive laser disc jobs all are still eating pain meds and in pain….. how does a patient know what is best for treatment options? if i go too an ortho, he wants the knife… if i go too a pain clinic, they hand you oxycontin, if i go too a laser procedure joint, they will say laser me! is there really a way too heal and live a normal life after disc injuries? eating pain meds and visiting the doc for more rx’s is where im at… ive seen athletes come back and play pro football after disc injuries and i doubt they are living on oxycontin ea day… is their a solution of fix for disc injuries? surgery worries me, i know its just a 50/50 shot and they hope it works.. ive yet too see anyone say theyve had a successful procedure and quit pain meds… so do i accept that im on pain meds for the rest of my life and live with it?

i would like too get in a gym and exercise, aerobics, light weights? is this out of the question? working out/exercising and bodybuilding was daily thing for me.. i competed and now here i sit… woohooo! percocets! o boy! any atheletes out there?

Help for sciatic nerve pain due to bulging disc.?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help relieve sciatic nerve pain? I have been in pain for over a week after lifting something and hurting my back. The doctors say I have a bulging disc that is pressing on my sciatic nerve. I don’t have much back pain, but the pain that runs down my leg is almost crippling at times. It alternates between hurting at my hip/butt, behind my knee, or in my calf. I need help!

I have been doing traction therapy at the chiropractor, and have been taking anti-inflamatory meds.

Codeine and the use for bulging neck disc pain?

Appears I have a bulging disc in the neck (C4/C7) and I am on 60mg codeine and 1g paracetamol 4xdaily and I also take 1g of naproxen too. Am having physio twice a week and some acupuncture for muscle spasms. The medication is for nerve pain that is in my back, and right arm and hand, anyone know how long it would be safe to carry that on for. Also anyone gone back to playing in the forwards at rugby at 3rds level, wife wants me to stop and I, well…. I’m now 44 but my heart says one more season, because of the pain I endured recently the head says no. I think I need to ask the audience

For about 2 months now I have been having pain on the right side by the waist area and back. It started off on the right side by the waist and the back and then now it is on my right leg. I did 2 abdominal cat scans. One showed liver enlgarged and the other (done with contrast) showed normal. At first one of the liver enzymes were slightly elevated but then a couple of weeks later they were not. However the sonogram showed liver enlarged. A few doctors said that the pain can be from a pinched nerve from the back but the MRI showed normal. Can it still be a pinched nerve from th spine even the the MRI was normal? I went to a neurologist and they said I should do an EMG to find out if it is a nerve pain or not. They also said that it can be from the epidural I took when I was in labor for my 4 months old son. The GI said that the enlarged liver can be from the pregnancy. Is this true? I am confused about all this. IF anyone has any suggestions let me know. Thanks.

How can I relieve leg pain from a herniated disc?

It’s the 5th lumbar, and I have shooting pains down the back of my right leg…any ways of making it less painful? Advil doesn’t work…
I’ve been to the doctor about it. I’m talking about immediate relief. Like, how can I relieve the nerve pain?
