I just got back my CT scan and the Dr. wants me to go to a neurologist. My L4 and L5 is messed up pretty bad. It has pinched my nerve. Has anybody had surgery on this and if so, what is it like, does it help, and what is the recovery time. I am going to a chiropractor tomorrow to see if he might can help me.

I had a spinal tap August 2005 and have experienced some severe nerve damage from it. For example I get Electrical shocks throughout my entire body when I put my head down or tap my legs, severe upper left abdominal pain due to the nerves being damaged and the area of my back where they performed the puncture is still very sensitive to the touch, and often hurts very badly. The Dr. who performed the procedure used a laparscope and didn’t even end up getting any fluid because he couldn’t avoid the nerves. So if any of you have experienced anything like this I would like to know how you deal with it. I have frequent visits with my neurologist who keeps insisting there is no way to reverse the nerve damage I experienced, I can only receive pain management.

I was in a car accident 10 months ago and after two days of talking to his insurance company I immediately called a lawyer. My car was totalled, it was 100% his fault (I have police reports to prove) and I have missed countless days of work and am still in pain. I went to three different types of doctors, had x-rays, mri’s and all sorts of tests done but i still have no use in two of my fingers, numbness and shooting pains. My last chiropractor released me basically saying there was not much more I could do and had to live with it. I have been told to see a neurologist but none will take me without insurance, or just based on my lawyer information.
I told the lawyer to just go ahead and start proceedings. She said they will come up with a demand. I dont know how this is all supposed to work but I want to make sure they are doing things RIGHT. I don’t want to get screwed just because I dont speak the legal jargon. If anyone can to tell me what to expect at this point, or what I can be doing or the lawyer should be doing that would be very helpful.

For approximately 6 weeks now, I have had a constant headache. I was treated initially for a sinus infection, it cleared up, headache continued. Went to see ENT, no signs of ear infection or sinus infection. He referred me to a neurologist who stated I had migraine headache because the headache was concentrated on one side of my head. MRI was done, results were normal. I still have the headache, most of the pain in the back on the right side, now into my neck, shoulder and down my arm and tingling in my fingers. I try ice packs, Topamax, Fironoil, BC, everything for headache, I have tried. I was involved in 2 auto accidents (2003 and 2005) both injuring the right side of my neck. I also had CTR on the right hand which had nerve complications, and right shoulder surgery 2years ago. Can someone please suggest something I haven’t tried.

months. I’ve been seeing an orthopedic surgeon, but have been told my an in-law that I should see a neurologist instead? Can someone help me with this surgery decision. I’m reading all I can about my condition so that I can be educated.

I am really planning to become a neurologist (the one who does surgery on the nerves, back, and spinal cord)when i grow up. im muslim and i want to help other people feel better cuz my dad had a disk herniation. I know that many people suffer from this but dont recieve help. But i am worried that a lot of people would not be comfortable enough to have surgery and have me operate on them lol. I dont see many Muslim surgeons either (women)Would you be ok with it?

For the past two months I have pain on my outer thigh and constant numbness. X-ray of my hip showed my hip is fine. I have no lower back pain. The pain is just isolated on the side of my leg (also the constant numbness) It feels bruised at times and other times feels like electricity is running through it, quite painful. However, when I jog or workout, the pain reduces. Is this a sciatic nerve problem or could it be something else. My doctor has no idea and I have to wait 2 months to see a neurologist.

I’m wondering right when someone has a SCI, what kind of surgeon operates on the injury? Neurologist or orthopedic surgeon? I have a C-4 level injury and my boyfriend wants to become a surgeon, he really wants to deal with spinal cord injuries so I want to know who operates on one.

My Neurologist wants me to get one done (trying to diagnose MS). I am afraid of the after effects and any possible spinal injury/damage. I would love to hear from anyone with knowledge about it but if someone has personally experienced it, that would be great to hear about what happened after it was done and if you still have any remaining effects.

Should I be seeing a chiropractor, neurologist, or some other kind of a doctor for a pinched nerve? Been seeing a chiropractor and I don’t feel much improvement in 2 and a half weeks.

I have 3 bulging discs in my neck. 9 months ago, had steroid injections to neck which helped, but still battled numbness in my shoulder. I feel the pain in my upper back coming back. Not sure if I should look into surgery or continue to get injections. Should I see a neurologist?

She’s only 7 but has had spinal arthritis for a couple of years. Her buddy (other dog) died last year and her dad (my best friend’s husband) died 7 months ago. This is my best friend’s baby. I just heard about this from her. vet will keep her overnight. Is there a possibility she may have to be put down. I can’t imagine…
Thanks for the response (human physician) and everyone else too. HER VET said that she will watch her today (dog is sedated) and if not at least a little better by tomorrow, she will refer her to a veterinary neurologist to discuss surgery. Good news is, owner (my best friend) has the money for any surgery she may need…thank goodness!

I think I have a herniated disc, but I am not seeing the neurologist until the end of the month. My symptoms are weakness in the legs, switching legs sometimes, mostly the thigh but sometimes the calf. Most of my symptoms pretty closely match the symptoms I have read online for herniated disc. I have no pain, though. However, I never see muscle trmembling in the legs as one of the symptoms. Did you experience this? I had an MRI that showed disc problems (my friend owns a MRI center and id and read the MRI as a favor), butI am worried that somwthing more could be going on. Did anyone wiht a herniated disc have this trembling in the leg muscles?

I’ve been having numbness in my big toe. It doesn’t occur during a particular activity, although I have noticed it more when I wear a certain pair of shoes. I’m assuming it’s a pinched nerve & don’t care enough at this point to pay towards my insurance deductible (it starts over soon), so please don’t just tell me to see a doctor. If you don’t know, just skip me.
Anyway, if it’s just a pinched nerve, how do I "fix" that? I’ve had one before when I was younger and the solution was simple- don’t cross my legs so much. Since this is in my toe & not my leg, is there something else I should/could do? Thanks for any info.
I’m not being dumb about it- asking on the Internet first is my way of knowing how serious to take this. If I drop dead before my deductible starts over, then you can call me dumb. Until then, I’m waiting. There is NO pain (for whoever said to ice it)- just numbness sometimes. Diabetes doesn’t run in my family unless you count a cat. I’m a young healthy woman. Like I said, I’ve had a pinched nerve before and the NEUROLOGIST was able to help simply by having me cross my legs less. That’s why I wanted to know if there was something I could do on my own. Thanks for the people who just answered the question.
