Long story short I have a herniated disc at C 5-6 and am in a lot of pain. I have had several trials of anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxers, OTC pain relievers and now percocet but am still in a lot of pain. I have recently started physical therapy and have seen a regular orthopedist, a neurologist and a spinal specialist. I had one epidural cortisone shot and they tried a second but they couldn’t get the placement of the needle right because the space was too small and as per the doctor I "moved". I had no relief from the first shot which is why they attempted the second one. There is some nerve impingement which is primarily affecting my right arm/hand/shoulder. As my luck would have it I am right handed. The spinal specialist I saw on Friday suggested that surgery may be a very good option if the PT does not work. I of course am scared but at this point I want to do absolutely anything. I mentioned this to my mother who has now "consulted" with other family members who all say I should not do this, that this would be horribly painful and open me up to many other problems. That the rehab would be absolutely worse than how I feel now. I cannot even make a real decision about this until I switch to an insurance company that would cover the spinal speciatlist I saw on Friday. This insurance will not take effect until January 2009. He is one of the leading MD’s for spinal surgery in NYC and I felt like he gave me some hope that there is an option. I also feel confident in his abilities and that he was not sellilng me some line to open me up. At this point I am having a terrible time coping with the pain and I am feeling very hopeless and depressed. I have been in constant pain for nearly 3 months and I feel like I am losing my mind. Every aspect of my life has been affected and it is only getting worse. How can I deal with this? Do I have other options besides PT and possibly surgery? How long should I try PT before making a decision like this? Would surgery make me worse? At this point I don’t know what to do and I feel like I am at the end of my proverbial rope.

For about 2 months now I have been having pain on the right side by the waist area and back. It started off on the right side by the waist and the back and then now it is on my right leg. I did 2 abdominal cat scans. One showed liver enlgarged and the other (done with contrast) showed normal. At first one of the liver enzymes were slightly elevated but then a couple of weeks later they were not. However the sonogram showed liver enlarged. A few doctors said that the pain can be from a pinched nerve from the back but the MRI showed normal. Can it still be a pinched nerve from th spine even the the MRI was normal? I went to a neurologist and they said I should do an EMG to find out if it is a nerve pain or not. They also said that it can be from the epidural I took when I was in labor for my 4 months old son. The GI said that the enlarged liver can be from the pregnancy. Is this true? I am confused about all this. IF anyone has any suggestions let me know. Thanks.

Will i contact to neurologist.

I had a neck injury from martial arts, have gotten headaches ever since. Saw a neurologist, they didn’t find anythinig, but don’t believe I got an MRI.

I have severe tingling pain which radiates from my back to the back of my knee. I guess it is Sciatica. I’m not sure if I should visit an orthopaedician or a neurologist. Please help.

How to find treatment for Lower Back Pain?

My wife is suffering from lower back pain for past 3 months & still the pain persists. We had done aryurvedic treatment, but of no use. Then we went to a neurologist & now having his medicines. But still the pain persists. The pain started after doing some cleaning work at the house for a long time. Can anybody suggest any good remedy or suggest some good doctors for treatment?

After many sinus surgeries my husband now has Trochlear Nerve damage which causes severe and constant (24/7) headaches. He has tried EVERY medication the E.N.T. & Neurologist could come up with but none have helped. Has anyone ever had this problem or know of anyone else who has? He has used every migraine headache Rx and even antidepresants, but none have helped.
To answer the last responders question: My husband had 4 or 5 sinus surgeries that all went well until this last one. Two days after the surgery was done he began to have severe pain above his eye where the nerve is. He was tested for allergies and found to have none (although for over 10 yrs his doctors said he had seasonal allergies and have been treating him for them!). He has had this headache since November 2005. We have tried to keep tack of the headaches to see if weather has any effect on them; changes in season; foods, etc., but it seems that none of those things makes the headaches less or worse than normal. Where exactly is the pain you are having? I would like to discuss this with you as you seem to have almost the same problem. You can email me at Wzardoz1939@yahoo.com if you like.

I have cerebral palsy and i had a spasm attack that lasted 45 min long last month. I have gone to an orapedic doctor yesterday and did a x-ray on my shoulder and neck. I have been trying to do physical therapy with my neurologist.the therapy hurts alot when i was trying it. So we stopped doing it. I go for an MRI on monday and supposed to have the results on thursday. My mom is against surgery but if my doctors said that i have to have it. Is it going to mess up my cerebral palsy and spinal cord?

What causes nerve pain on top side of the head?

It’s been 3 months that I have a slight pain on both sides of the head 3 inches above my ears, and top part of the head is very sensitive. The pain is manageable, seems like a nerve pain, and not inside my head. Been going to neurologist, ENT, chiro and internist, and they are baffled. There isn’t a day that I don’t feel any pain. I’ve been searching the website for clues about this symptoms, but no luck. Please help! I’m 32yo male and active in sports.

Ive been in pain for 4-6 months and ive seen a chiropractor 3 times. Today is the worst pain I have been in since the 4-6 months. Im thinking the chiropractor is full of crap and is just trying to string me out for my money.

Should I go see a neurologist and get an actual medical opinion rather than a fake doctor?
