I have blood in my semen and pee and severe abdominal cramps. My mom is a retired nurse and figured it was a ruptured kidney. I have passed out for a moment 2 times while waiting for the ambulance to come. They will have to take my kidney out. Anyone been through this? What should I be expecting? Thanks.

I went to the doctor for a hurt toe. I thought I broke it and is wasn’t getting better. (I went 2 months later) The doctor ordered an x ray and said it would just let us know if I broke it but the treatment wouldn’t change. Treatment being a anti-inflammatory. The the nurse calls back saying a cyst showed up and they will be referring me to an orthopedist.

I dislocated my shoulder a couple of weeks ago, and my arm’s been in an immobilizer since then. Because my arm has been at my side basically 24-7, my forearm’s numb. My mom, who’s a nurse, thinks I might have pinched a nerve. What can I do about this?

I don’t know what the medical profession considers standard, and there are many details. Would an attorney know this? Should I also talk to a doctor or nurse about this?
Talk to a lawyer, yeah, maybe I take on more than I could work with otherwise.

I have a student who was kicked in the back by another student sliding down the slide behind him. It was an accident, and he was evaluated by the nurse. She reported no harm done. I also called mom to report it. This was Friday afternoon. He hasn’t been to school since. Tuesday she called the school and said he would be out a while because he has a "thoracic vertebrae bruise." The child really seemed fine. He was running around – even see-sawing afterward. Can you tell me some about this?

In the early stages of care for C1-C2 quad, what should we expect:
1. What type of mattress should he be on? He’s on a thin air mattress which doesn’t adjust air pressure.
2. How often should he be turned or his position altered?
Seems like they don’t change his position much if at all!
3. He has a sip/puff mouth call button for the nurse. They do not respond quickly enough. He is anxious and this is all so new for him – surely after only a couple of weeks post injury and with such a high level of injury, they should be responding immediately?
4. They have not set up any systems for him in terms of communication. His family made a letter board, but the hospital have had no therapists or specialists come in to help with establishing methods of communication.
5. Shouldn’t he be getting physical therapy every day? He doesn’t have any passive range of motion exercises.
I would really appreciate any opinions, ideas, or resource information.
Thanks,
Bridgette

I was involved in a motor vehicle accident about 2 years ago and have a spinal cord injury that made me a paraplegic for now. I have been through rehab and in the hospital they gave me bachlophen because it helps with spasms in which I can’t control in my legs, and my legs are pretty strong so they are pretty annoying spasms. But I was taking Bacholophen I was taking was 60 mg and doing hardly anything except put me to sleep, so I stop taking it. I just got another back surgery and the nurse suggested Valium for spasms, and it works great, the only thing is, is that is valium so I’m not always in my right state of mind and I don’t want to escape reality just to not have leg spasms, does anyone know of any drugs or exercises to help control spasms that don’t have a lot of side effects. I’ve gone from one extreme to another, but now Valium I heard is not such a good thing to be on all the time. Can anyone help?
Right now I’m taking 5 mg in the morning and 2.5 at noon and 2.5 mg at night, so 10mg total per day. Is that alot?

Ms. Johnson, an automobile whiplash victim, has been suffering spinal shock, but is looking forward to complete recovery. One night on evening rounds, her nurse discovered her in a fetal position, her body drenched with sweat. She was incontinent of feces and urine and her blood pressure was dangerously high. After a while, she was stabilized. How could these events happen ?AND ALSO what is the name of the exact response called?

It has been brought to my attention by a retired nurse that my daughter’s spinal injury that occurred at 15 months could be tied to the MMR vaccine she received shortly beforehand. (She just woke up from a nap and was paralyzed from the waist down. Every test came back negative.) Of course none of her many doctors have mentioned it, but that’s no surprise. I wanted to know if there’s anyone else who has had this happen or who knows someone, etc. I’m trying to find others who have had similar problems and the only thing i can find online really is autism stuff. Just really wanted to hear other people’s stories and maybe find some helpful sites. Thanks everyone for your time.

7 days ago attended a martial arts class and agitated my back twisting it in some unusual angles…felt a little sore in one spot but I still felt great. Next day was doing this job waiving a heavy sign back and forth for 8 hours straight ugh.
Pain increased tenfold and spread through my lower back. Resting it for a week, icing it, and stretching it/moving around to keep it loose. Still hurts like crazy…tight, dull pain plus some sharp shooting pain.
Doctor says I agitated the soft tissue probably and it can take a couple of weeks to recover.
How do I know what type of back injury I have sustained?
The doctor offered to get xrays done, I’m broke so I said I’d think about it. Do X-rays show anything?
I am in great pain, missed a week of work to nurse my back, possibly lost my second job, behind on bills…you had a chance to give positive advice.
Instead you question why I waited a week to see the doctor. Dr’s almost always recommend resting for a few days to see how it recovers, which is exactly what my doctor recommended.
The xrays were an option that was offered to me. Or I can wait a few days see how I feel and get them. It’s up to me and I’m trying to figure out if and when would be a good time to get them. Just so you know, I didn’t get the xrays because with missed work my account ran to zero and I want to think before I start getting bills I can’t pay. Also I was in the middle of a mental breakdown so I left the xray place to rest and talked with the lady who said I could come back later no problem.
Also I never said the stretching hurt. The back is what hurts, not the gentle stretching. Please stop making assumptions. 4000 posts of that? I feel for you.

Is a complete recovery possible after a severe brain injury? I was asked this question recently after a young man suffered a severe brain injury from an auto accident. After searching my memories I had to admit the people I knew had permanent changes in their personalities and capabilities after a brain injury.
I am asking this question of Senior Citizens because you all have had the chance to know so many people during your lifetimes. I wasn’t looking for an answer from a doctor or nurse, though you are most welcome to answer my question too.

I have been having severe pain in the right side of my neck for a few months now, and recently I started getting numbness and tingling in my right arm and hand. I have had headaches and lots of weakness. SO, my doctor had me get an MRI. The MRI showed a bulding disc in my cervical spine, but the nurse told me that the disc is bulging on the left side, so my symptoms have no known cause and no treatment. What does this mean? If my symptoms indicate a bulding disc, then is the fact that the pain is on the opposite side of the bisc bulge eliminate the bulging disc as the cause? I am really confused and I was hoping to finally be able to get treatment. HELP! What do I ask my doctor? What is causing my pain?
Thank you for suggesting I get a copy of my MRI for a second opinion. I made an appointment for about 20 minutes from now and I will ask for a copy of the results.
