i had an acccident about a year and half ago and i was a passenger. i have no health insurance and have been footing all medical bills thus far. i am writing a demand letter right now but am wondering how much should be my compensation request.
here’s a brief summary. the other driver is at complete fault. i have all soap notes from doctors, bills and reports. we were hit head on while on our way to my root canal surgery, i was having my permanent put in. i had to go in 2 weeks later wearing a cervical collar. i have choronditis, back sprains and horrible knee contusions still left on my foot. my doctor has recommended physical therapy for up to 3 months but i can’t afford to go anymore thus why i am trying to settle.
total medical bills is about 12,000 not including other misc like pills.
i just don’t want to ask too high or be taken for a fool,so please help. thanks.
also the insurance company has never made an offer they said it was a hard hit. both cars in wreck totaled.

FRUSTRATED! 4yrs ago or so i visited an ortho that ran an mri and then handed me a referral told me he couldnt do anything for me… this was the largest ortho outfit in the city that handles the pro football players etc…. theyre all about marketing… why they wouldnt handle my disc injuries is beyond me.. im glad though because i couldnt understand the dudes broken english lol… anyway, i thought why is he sending me too pain mgt ie. pain pill mill…. they arent in any innovative in surgical techniques.. in fact, i had too obtain a printout from a pharmacist describing new meds like 15mg, 30mg oxycodone tabs that contain zero tylenol… the pain doc argued that i was wrong and that he was giving me 10mg tylenol loaded percocets 10x a day.. no way! he said they didnt make 15,30mg stuff.. anyway, im on 10 of the 15mg oxycodones a day and im tired of pills.. im tired of lyrika ( anti seizure med used for nerve pain) im tired anti inflammatories…. part of this is due too the fact that ive exhausted physical therapy, epidural injects, chiro care, and all im doing is graduating each year on pain meds to a stronger dose… ive been offered fentanyl, oxycontin, methadone, none of which i wish too endure… never! i dont know anymore if a pain pill clinic is for me? the top doc is an ortho surgeon and if you ask me, a man with a hammer will hit anything that looks like a nail… just like this dude, hes an awesome caring doc but hey, is surgery the answer? everyone ive met thats had back surgery, from laminectomies to minimally invasive laser disc jobs all are still eating pain meds and in pain….. how does a patient know what is best for treatment options? if i go too an ortho, he wants the knife… if i go too a pain clinic, they hand you oxycontin, if i go too a laser procedure joint, they will say laser me! is there really a way too heal and live a normal life after disc injuries? eating pain meds and visiting the doc for more rx’s is where im at… ive seen athletes come back and play pro football after disc injuries and i doubt they are living on oxycontin ea day… is their a solution of fix for disc injuries? surgery worries me, i know its just a 50/50 shot and they hope it works.. ive yet too see anyone say theyve had a successful procedure and quit pain meds… so do i accept that im on pain meds for the rest of my life and live with it?
i would like too get in a gym and exercise, aerobics, light weights? is this out of the question? working out/exercising and bodybuilding was daily thing for me.. i competed and now here i sit… woohooo! percocets! o boy! any atheletes out there?

about 2.5 years ago i began experiencing leg pain and was diagnosed with 2 herniated discs. i was put on lite duty for 18 mos (i wait tables, had to hostess)
after countless docs pills chiros and breakdowns, i felt better about a year ago and retrned to waiting tables. my mri showed that the hernaition had beome a sligt bulge.
i was movin a few wks ago and felt like i may have reinjured the disc, had some low back pain and a little leg pain.
over the past few days the pain has become almost intolerable. im miserable at work, when standing, sittin… its keeping me up at nite
the pain i have now is worse than its ever been and its constant no matter what i do. i recently started a new job and dont have health ins. and even if i did, i know theyd tell me to get off my feet for atleast a few weeks and thats just not an option
i have a few back strengtening exercises i do, but what else can i do for myself?

We have a mini dachsund with a slipped disc. She cannot use her back legs, but they aren’t paralyzed. Today she got a steroid shot and we have anti-inflammatory pills for her to take.
I just wanted to know if anyone has been in the same situation and if you had any advice to pass along.

I had my daughter August 2006. I had to have an emergency C section so I had to have an epidural. I know its normal for them to cause back pain on and off the rest of your life and the back pain is starting to get worse.
Well I guess really what my question is what are some things you do to get rid of the paid an epidural causes or just normal back pain? I don’t like to take pills so i’m trying to find natural ways to make the pain go away.

a year ago i was put on methadone and loratab for break through pain. But it gave me such mood swings that i took my self off of them and we tried percocet. But i was starting to worry about how many i was taking every day.
so i asked my Dr if there was something i could take twice a day and something for break through pain. he suggested methadone again and i said yea it worked but i was concerned about my moods swings he said it wouldn’t be as strong this time.so i said okay and he gave me the methadone but nothing for the break through pain. see the methadone wares off in 6 hours and for 6 hours i am in real pain till i can take the methadone again. and when i call him he gives me something that didn’t work in the past and nothing stronger till i see him on the 25th and suffer through it till then. i feel like we are going back wards on my treatment by him throwing pills at me that haven’t worked in the past. any suggestions out there?
sorrry it was so long and thanks in adavance
yea that’s it forest.. if i just wanted to get high, i would have stayed taking the percs 6 times a day

also yes, they have never mad an offer at all in a year and a half. i basically want this to be over since two years will be november.
again, should i start at 3x medical expenses or what number?
should i expect to be reimbursed for all the money i have put out thus far. i have no health insurance, so it has been a huge burden.

I have heard that taking medications can be hard on the kidneys. I take several pills daily. I want to make sure I am not confusing the pain I am feeling more to the outside of my back above my bottom, from my disc pain. My pain is different, and that is what draws my concern. I appreciate all feedback. Thanks!!

I have been experiencing strong and consistent back pain for as long as I can remember (I am 25 now). It starts with a little discomfort in my lower back, and about 20 minutes later, if I don’t take pain medication, my joints will start to ache on one side (my hip, my knee, my ankle). X-rays show some minor scoliosis and a compressed disc (L4 and L5). So far, orthopedic surgeons are reluctant to do anything or even take me seriously because I’m "not old enough to be in a lot of pain."
My question is, could this be something more than a compressed disc? I’ve heard mention of sciatica but I have no idea what that is. I can usually catch it before it gets too bad, but it takes about 4 pills a day (Excedrin, Advil, etc) and I don’t think that’s a good long term answer.
And, one last question – what can I say to the doctor to get him to take me seriously?
