dextroscoliotic curvature of the lumbar spine with disc desiccation changes sparing the L-5-S1 level at L1-2 there is a disc osteophyte complex with loss of disc height and desiccation changes . Tell me what this means if you know. Please

I am 26 weeks pregnant and have a very painful bulging disc between my L5 and S1 vertebrae. Heat, rest, and tylenol are not helping. Anyone know of any other options that could get rid of my pain? We are moving out-of-state in 4 days and I have a lot to do and need to get rid of this pain. Yes, I have been to a chiropractor, but all he does is put heat on it and adjusting is painful.

I may need spinal fusion surgery of L5 and S1…If anyone has had a spinal fusion i would like to know the outcome of it good and/or bad…also the location of where your spinal fusion took place, any information at all form someone who has had a spinal fusion would be greatly appreciated, Thanks…

Have you had spinal fusion surgery?

I am to have spinal fusion surgery @ L5/S1 for spondylolisthesis. I would like to hear from anyone who has had the surgery before.

Bulging disc question! Help! ?

Hello, I got sick about 6 months ago with bowell problems, headaches, backaches and chest wall pain. I went to the doctor and my white blood count was low and all of my other blood test were good. I have been having dizzy spells and they did ANA test and told me that I have Lupus. I really don’t think that I have lupus. The only symptoms that I had was the Pos ANA and Low WBC. I just got my MRI results and they said I have a brain and I have a bulging disc on the L3-4, disc posterior. I also have a mild psterior herniation L5-S1 with impingement of the neural foramina bilaterally. Could my symptoms for the last six months be because of the results from the MRI? Please only respond if you have good answers with education or websites to back it up. Thanks and God bless all of you!

Impression: Central bulging disc at L4-5. The most significant finding in a left lateral disc osteophyte complex at L5-S1, which causes severe left foraminal stenosis

What does the mean in terms I can understand, and what type of treatment or outcome should I expect from the orthopedic specialist I’m being referred to?

What to do about a herniated sciatic nerve (sacral 1)?

What are the treatments/cures/pain reliefs that can be done and their risks.
I’m pretty sure it’s s1, and the ‘patient’ believes it was herniated.
definitely the sciatic nerve.
the ‘patient’ also had sciatic nerve pain about 5 or so years ago when it was injured or pulled in basketball.

Ive been a tech for many years. I really don’t mind doing anything in the dept except for flat films in the OR. Especially cross table lumbar spines. They always come out extremely gray at L5-S1. We have Agfa 6 CR with 400 speed film. I usually use 85 at 250 or 320. Help!!

I have been suffering from low back pain for the past 2.5 years now. Initially, it started as small pain but gradually increased to a high level. The pain was mostly on the left side.

In Dec 2006, I had an MRI taken which showed mild disc bulge at L4-5 on the right side and significant disc herniation at L5-S1 on the left side. The MRI also showed some disc dehydration at these two disc levels.

For the past 2.5 years though, the pain used to vanish by 95% when I used to sit down. The pain was continuous while walking and standing at one point.

But since 10 days, the pain has increased to such an extent that I am not even able to sit. The pain starts in the lower back, goes down the thigh and legs and sometimes a burning sensation in the legs. Also, the pain has started on the right side of the lower back which was not there earlier.

I had another MRI taken recently in Oct 2008 and the report was not much different from the earlier one. The only difference was that now the disc herniation at L4-5 and L5-S1 has become bilateral now ( on both left and right sides ).

I have been continuously undergoing physiotherapy for the past 2.5 years but there has not been a period where I was completely free from pain. I have also recently tried Ayurvedic therapy for 7 days continuously and there was no significant relief.

I have heard about this spinal decompression technique which might be helpful for such cases of lower back. This would be the last resort before surgery.

Can anyone tell me whether this really helps ? Are there any risks associated with it ? Also, is the treatment available in India ?

I am ready to spend time, effort and money if it really helps. I have one year of time to go before marriage and I want to get rid of the pain before that.

Sorry for having taken your time with a long history but thought to explain the problem in detail.

Looking forward to some quick replies.

In early January, I suffered a herniated disc after getting up from a chair (don’t know how that happened). I got an MRI, and it’s a small one at L5-S1. It has been causing me so much pain in my lower back and down my right leg. I was referred to a neurosurgeon who has tried all of the conservative treatments (injections, steroids, anti-inflammatory drugs, physical therapy, rest, heat/ice, swimming, etc). Periodically, I’ll be vacuuming, doing dishes, or other housework and I’ll re-injure my back. Sometimes, it is so bad that I just lay on the floor for a while until I can crawl to a couch or bed.

Lately I’ve noticed it has been slowly getting worse. It has been harder for me to walk and get around (almost as if my back is slumped but not), it hurts more to sit and lay down and it’s almost impossible to straighten my right leg without spasms in my back. What else can I do? My neurosurgeon said that I’m not a canditate for surgery because my herniation is small. It’s been six months and the pain is still unbearable.

Do you have any ideas… anything would help!!! THANK YOU.
The only thing that helps every now and then is to curl into the fetal position…
I’m 19 years old.

Have herniated disc L5-S1, with chronic pain in lower back, with radiculopathy in legs, with numbness in toes.

The specific degenerative disc is at L5-S1… I’ve been to a few doctors who have all told me to swim, stretch, and do exercises as much as possible. After about six months of doing all of these activities I still have pain. I’m just looking for any trick, tip, form of exercise, etc.
Thanks
