I had a L5 spinal fusion about 3 years ago, I did rehab and when the Dr. said I could get back to normal life, I re-broke my back only a few months later and was undergoing a 2nd L5 fusion only 6 months after the first. This TERRIFIED me, and other than very basic movement and walking, I was too afraid to move at all. I’ve finally gotten past my phobia and I suppose what would be called depression and am now trying to lose all the weight that packed on from what became a solid year of lying in bed with a back brace as well as strengthen my back and core. I mean it hurts to sit up straight for extended time, stand up for any time, do ANYTHING for more than a few minutes and I start to crumble in pain. Can someone please tell me if it’s too late to try and strengthen my back and core? I stay in very constant moderate to severe pain. I don’t want to have a 3rd surgery. I’m only 26. What are the best things I can do? I was an athlete (football through h.s. and then mma as a hobby) so the workouts I’m use to, kill me. I feel like I’m 60 years old. I’m sorry for the length of this question/life story, but it’s consumed my entire mid twenties life. I even get winded and hurt from yoga… I know "no pain, no gain" but I have that constant fear of, " is this a workout pain, or am I in danger of breaking my back again?" Any and every bit of advice is appreciated. I want my life back. I’d like to eventually not have to depend on my Dr.’s medications. I used to be so active, but I’ve been as close to a shut in for 3+ years as one can be. Advice, links, charts, workout routines, anything, please help me. Thank you to any one who took the time to read this entire thing. Your efforts will not be ignored. Thank you. Yours truly – Joshua P.S. I’ve recently joined my local YMCA to try and work out, if nothing else but use their pool. So I have access to most anything in the exercise world. I would like to hear any thoughts on these "Teeter Hangup" type devices. I just looks like it would be SO soothing to reverse all the pressure that stays on my spine. I’m 26 years old, male, 5’10 and from the time of the surgeries I have blown up from 230 lbs to 320 lbs…. diet tips are also VERY welcome… Thank you all so much!

You see this in movies..The Guy is hurt and he is suffering from severe pain his friend suggest they cut his leg (not the whole leg just a simple slice) next to his injury cause it will somehow reduce the pressure of the injury and help him survive ..
I dont get it the guy is now bleeding more than ever how does this help?
Who can explain this?

At the end of last month I woke up and I could barely move. For the next three or four days I couldn’t walk on my own. I was in severe pain. I’ve had back pain before but nothing like this.

This morning my mom woke up and she could barely move. She’s hurting just like I was. Neither of us has done anything strenuous.

What could cause us both to have severe back pain like this?

I have been practicing yoga since January this year and suffering from severe pain in the neck and fingers of the hands ever since. It was only a couple of days back that I realized that I was exercising in a wrong manner which caused the pain. I have stopped exercising for the last two days. There has been about 5% improvement in the pain since. How long will it take to heal completely? Will I require surgery?

Is this my Sciatic Nerve?

Over the weekend I squatted down to pick up an object and heard a loud pop in my hip…I have had severe pain in my groin area and buttocks area every since. When I walk and lift my leg it hurts badly, but when I lay on my stomach with my leg hiked up to my side the pain subsides. Could this be an injury to my sciatic nerve?

Is it a pinched nerve or a pulled muscle?

What are the symptoms of a pinched nerve in your hip? My husband can’t move without shooting pain or walk without severe pain. It started when he bent down to pick up a golf ball.

I was involved in a accident in which I was hit in the front & driver side I was driving an older blazer so It didn’t sustain much damage (00) However the at fault driver was in a much smaller auto that was totaled. My Knee had ruptured blood vessels, Meniscus tears, swelling,Bruising & severe pain, it Buckles & in 1 incident It caused me to fall injuring my knee even much more, I also had mild cervical strain,Right ankle sprain & upper & lower back pain. My PCP referred my to an orthopedic specialist, physical therapy & chiropractor. I have been in treatment for 22 weeks and have been released by PT & Chiropractor, to go back as needed.released by Ortho specialist to return for injections to knee as needed or other possible treatment. I continue to have pain & can’t sleep on right side but am considered as good as i will be. Also in the accident I had my 13 year old son with me who was thankfully not injured, but I drive him to & from school every day, during the 1st few weeks I could not drive and had very limited mobility. What would be a good settlement for these injuries?
The insurance company has paid to have my vehicle repaired. My Health insurance is paying for my medical bills but its my understanding that I will have to pay them back after the settlement.
What kind of injuries would these be considered? (Soft Tissue)?

HAVE COMPRESSION FRACTURES IN THORATIC, AND LUMBAR VERTABRE. HAVING SEVERE PAIN IN LEG PROBABLY CAUSED FROM THE SCIATIC NERVE.

How to heal a back injury?

I made a very dumb mistake by not stretching for my dance show. I don’t know what I was thinking. So now I have had a back injury for 3 months. It’s not SEVERE pain but it still hurts.

I had lung surgery 5 years ago. I had a spinal epidural which allowed me to give myself controlled pain medication after the surgery. This was in for a about a week. After a few months I began having severe pain in my back originating at that spot. This happened off and on for a couple of years then stopped. Now it is happening again. The pain is severe in that spot and radiating in my back, my right lower side goes numb (incidently that’s where my lung was removed) . The only relief I can get from this almost unbearable pain is to lay down immediately, put heat on it, take an aspirin and wait for it to pass which takes around 30 minutes. I am just curious if anyone else has ever experienced this. Thanks

I am a college student and I live hours away from my hometown. My mom just recently told me that she had been put on medical leave. My mom NEVER misses work. Her neck is in severe pain and she cannot feel her hands.

She was told that she needs to have spinal surgery with the use of cadaver bones, bone marrow and steel rods.

My mom is almost fifty, she smokes and she really isn’t the healthiest person. I really worry about her. How serious is this surgery? She is trying to make it sound like it is so common for people to have spinal surgery who can’t feel their hands for weeks.

This was a long time in the making, but she said it all happened when she was in the garden.

my boyfriend is in severe pain he has a pinched nerve in his neck.
Question Details: he has been in so much pain, Operation is the only solution. unfortunetly as he waits for his insurance to kick in, He remains in pain. Is there any one out there who might known something or anything to reduce the pain in pinched nerves.

Dog with mysterious spinal injury?

My dog started having some issues Thursday night with not walking around as much (she’s a very hyper, healthy girl) and so I stayed up with her and she got progressively worse till I convinced my mom to take her to the vet. They ran all kinds of tests on her and concluded that she must have hurt herself somehow and gave her a shot of buprenex and sent her home where she did not move (we never left her alone at all) for over 24 hours to the point of urinating on herself. She would only eat peanut butter off a spoon and would only drink water from a ladle held under her mouth, but drank at least two bowl fulls total. The vet kept telling us it could be up to 24 hours before she started getting up, but she didn’t, so we took her to the vet again today and they ran a ton more tests and said all vitals are perfect and all organs are perfect but she has one area on her spine that looks swollen and hurt so they’re trying steroids tonight and transferring her back to her regular vet tomorrow to make sure it’s working. She can now walk a little with assistance when forced and all legs are functioning. She’s also much more alert but obviously in severe pain. But I have no clue what could have happened to her-she’s NEVER once in her entire life been outside without a leash or anything and she’s our only dog, so how in the world could she get hurt? The only thing we could think was she fell down the stairs. And what can I do to help her heal? Does she need a doggie wheelchair or a sling or something while she recuperates? She’s a big dog (55 pounds) and that’s a lot of weight for her to have to support. Maybe I could do some type of physical therapy or massage therapy?
