Just got MRI results back. Family Doc says I have a bulging disk between C5-C6. Went to pain management yesterday and that Doc said it is pressing on the nerves affecting my left arm. I refused steroids shots b/c I am not in severe pain or debilitated. I am being sent to physical therapy which is fine with me as I need to learn how to do things so it does not get worse. Anyhow, what is the difference between buldging disks and herniated disks? I thought they were the same but I think I am mistaken. Also, any advice?

I have had severe pain in my butt area for 4 years since the birth of my last son. Since then I was put on permanent disability. I have begged and pleaded for someone to find the problem. I started getting medi-care since Dec 09. I changed doctors and medical group. I now have a sutter physician. She did an x-ray on me in jan 10 and found out I have moderate arthritis and a degenerative sacriolliac joint. I am allergic to NSAIDS so can’t do anything for the arthritis I am on 60mg a day oxycontin for the pain and now radiating down my legs since the past year getting worse. I did a MRI 2 days ago the results say I have a bulging disc in the L-5 ans S-1 area. plus arthritis and a hemangiomata. In the past I have of course taken pain meds, physical therapy, chiro, heat treatment trigger point injections or steroid injections. Now I dont know what my options are or what I should do to relieve the pain. It is getting where the oxycontin is not helping much anymore and my doc does not want to change or increase it. I see her on mar 3, 2011 to discuss. What should I suggest? Also because I was misdiagnosed and told it was in my head and my previous doctors refused to help me do I have a neglegence or malpractice case. I am in tears daily. Now deal with major depression and social anxiety also avoidance personality disorder all due to this happening. What should I do? All opinions appriciated.

ok so, for the past month or two my lower back has been really hurting whenever i am active. at the beginning it hurt like all the time but now its mainly just when i play sports but its a more severe pain than it was before. i have an appointment with my othopedic doctor in a couple of weeks. i am a teenage girl btw. the trainer at my school thought it could be a stress fracture in my back (theres a name for it but i dont remember it right now). If there is no stress fracture and there are no visible injuries, do you think they will make me wear a brace when i excersize?? or will they just keep me from sports? or somehting else?? i want to know so i can be prepared. thanks for all answers!!

I was rear-ended 3 months ago and my neck flew back. Right away my spine hurt but I was NEVER in severe pain, my spine and neck just ached. Now I am experiencing numbness in arms, legs and feet and face and am thinking this can be maybe be from a spinal injury but Im not in any pain (sometimes a little if I touch my spine)
-1. Could a spine injury cause all that numbess (the numbess in only sometimes, usually when I wake up in the morning)?
-2. Could I have a spine injury and not be in hardly any pain? SHould I get X-rays
3. Has this happened to you?

I’ve been with a terrible and incisive low back pain in the area of the sciatic nerve. It runs all the way down to the left hamstring and to my calf producing at some moments during the day numbness. My walking is so slow due to the continued and severe pain in my butt (just left side). Is there something could help me to deal with the pain beside over the counter drugs? Exercises?

I just got out of the hospital over here in Germany. I went in several days ago after waking up with severe pain in my neck and shoulders and numbness in my hands and feet. My MRI showed 8 fractures of bones and vertebrae and 6 discs that were in pieces or disintegrating. The Chief surgeon said also that the "channels" that contain my nerve chain were too small and causing a lot of the pain and numbness. He said surgery is a must. INFO PLEASE??????

I have been having severe pain in the right side of my neck for a few months now, and recently I started getting numbness and tingling in my right arm and hand. I have had headaches and lots of weakness. SO, my doctor had me get an MRI. The MRI showed a bulding disc in my cervical spine, but the nurse told me that the disc is bulging on the left side, so my symptoms have no known cause and no treatment. What does this mean? If my symptoms indicate a bulding disc, then is the fact that the pain is on the opposite side of the bisc bulge eliminate the bulging disc as the cause? I am really confused and I was hoping to finally be able to get treatment. HELP! What do I ask my doctor? What is causing my pain?
Thank you for suggesting I get a copy of my MRI for a second opinion. I made an appointment for about 20 minutes from now and I will ask for a copy of the results.

Any personal questions are welcome!
The bulge is pushing on nerves causing severe pain and making it sometimes hard to stand! There is a pinched nerve and the pain shoots down my right leg every now and then.
I can’t work. DO I QUALIFY? Thanks to all!
Also, I have already had some Epidural Steroid Injection Treatments but can no longer afford them because I was on Medicaid ( I was a kid now I am 21). However, I am a student. Are there any health benefits for me?

I was seriously injured in an auto accident and have no personal ins. The dr.’s will not do 3rd. party billing & bill the auto ins. directly. They want me to pay for all care up front. The specialists want 0.00-0.00 just for a consultation. I am in constant severe pain & need to get med. care fast but no one will help & the dr.’s won’t let me make payments! Go figure. If anyone knows anything that can help or a good lawyer that can help please let me know.

Ok for the past week I have had severe pain in my lower back, I went to the doctor today and will be having a x-ray and mri tomorrow.
Here’s the thing He told me even If I had a herniated disc he would not prescribe me vicodin for the pain because I’m still young…I’m 30 years old and had already taken this med for months after my shoulder surgery.Don’t you think that’s alittle odd? He will prescribe me ultram, but that stuff is useless for severe pain..
shoulder surgery was work related, alot of heavy repetive lifting.Tendonosis, bone spurs, impingment etc,etc

She has three slightly buling discs in her lumbar region. They caused some pain last year, but nothing too long term or horrible. At that time, there was no need for surgery.
A few weeks ago, er back acted up and has gotten progressively worse, with severe pain no matter what. Our insurance turned down a referral to an accupuncturist, and she can’t get to see a spine specialist until Aug. 10. What can i do to help her be more comfortable? This is killing me because I can’t think of anything to do for her!

I have severe pain in my lower back which travels into my legs .
I have taken MRI’s which showed i do have arthritis . The doctors keep telling me that it is becuase of the arthritis that i have this pain in my legs. Could it be something else?.. and What can i do to eleviate the pain?

I have taken everything and nothing really helps except of course Vicodens but they are addicting and i took them so long that even those are not helping so i stopped .. that was another problem and another story! ..but i have had 2 ,3series shots of epidurals ..i havebeen to physical therapy which is nioce but the pain returns as soon as i leave the office ..
