Back and sciatic nerve pain help?

I just turned 27 weeks and all the sudden my lower back and sciatic nerve started acting up. I talked to my OB today and she said that there really isn’t anything I can do and it will most likely get worse from here. My question is "what did you do for your back and sciatic nerve pain"? Did tylenol help? I don’t remember it hurting this bad when I was pregnant with my daughter and Ive kept my weight gain on the normal side this time. Please help.

I get charge 0 just to see a doctor and she tell me that i can buy some tylenol for my lower back Lumbar, and she can’t do nothing for my ankle. After i get very angry with her i told her that for a tylenol and ankle support i didn’t need to go and se her. Well se end it up prescribing me. CYCLOBENZAPRINE. 10 MG. There is someone here. can tell me what is the best medicine?
Thank you.

Bulging disc or lack of b12?

I’ve been to the dr and had a MRI on my right knee (which showed nothing) and now lower spine. The problem started with my foot going numb, just the top about 4 inches above my ankle down through my toes. One toe has gone crooked and limp, I cannot walk normal on that foot b/c it slaps down when I apply weight to my heal. I had a shot of b12 which helped with the mobility factor, but the numbness has gotten worse and gone north up the outer side of my leg. I wasn’t having pain in my lower back until about 2-3 weeks ago and since has become very painful just above my butt. No meds seem to help the pain (Tylenol 3, Advil, aspirin, regular Tylenol) and the heating pad offers very little relief. I haven’t seen the doctor yet about my MRI results and can’t get a call back for some reason. Is it possible that I am lacking b12 and a supplement will solve the issue or does it sound more like a bulging disc? Someone who’s been through this, your opinion is appreciated.

This all started about a month ago. I had a horrible pain in my thigh. It’s a throbbing pain that radiates from where my leg and butt meet and again about 5-6 inches above my thigh, on the backside. It is deep within the thigh, nearer to the bone. I wake up in the morning with it throbbing and sore and as the day progresses, it feels better and no pain at all unless I push on those spots. Motrin does nothing, tylenol and aspirin tend to help the best. About 2 weeks ago, I stated getting numbness and tingling all down the back of my leg from the bottom of my butt to my heel. I went in and saw one of the nurses under my doctor. She thought I had a strain in my lower back (which is not hurting at all) and it is putting pressure on my nerve (most likely the sciatic). They took a bunch of xrays on my lumbar region and they didn’t show anything abnormal. I was put on a 7 day steroid and muscle relaxers. On day 4 of my steroid pack, my heel went numb, not the skin, but the tissue underneath (it’s been numb ever since). The muscle relaxers did nothing for me, they barely even made me sleepy. Every time I stand up and even sometimes when laying down if I flex my leg, I get shooting tingling and numbness all the way down my leg from butt to heel. I called the nurse back, now she thinks I have a slipped disc and is ordering an MRI.

Now, my questions is, what is with this pain in my thigh? It’s not getting any better, it was my first symptom and this nurse doesn’t seem to think anything of it. By the time I saw her it was 3 pm and my thigh wasn’t hurting at all. However, every morning I wake up and it’s killing me. Some nights it wakes me up the pain is so bad. I am thinking the problem started with my thigh, so its more likely that this is the cause of my sciatic tingling. I plan on going back in, this time seeing my doctor and not the nurse for a second opinion. Not that I have anything against nursepractitionerss, infact, I prefer them to an OB. I just think there is something wrong with my thigh and want another opinion.

Can a slipped disc cause this much pain in your thigh? I have no back pain whatsoever, so I’m not sure I agree with her. I would compare the pain to a strained muscle, but it’s been over a month, I have been taking it easy (I’m a stay at home mom) and the pain is not getting any better, so I’m thinking its not a strained muscle. Feel free to ask anymore questions, I’ve tried to be as informative as I can. Thanks!

FRUSTRATED! 4yrs ago or so i visited an ortho that ran an mri and then handed me a referral told me he couldnt do anything for me… this was the largest ortho outfit in the city that handles the pro football players etc…. theyre all about marketing… why they wouldnt handle my disc injuries is beyond me.. im glad though because i couldnt understand the dudes broken english lol… anyway, i thought why is he sending me too pain mgt ie. pain pill mill…. they arent in any innovative in surgical techniques.. in fact, i had too obtain a printout from a pharmacist describing new meds like 15mg, 30mg oxycodone tabs that contain zero tylenol… the pain doc argued that i was wrong and that he was giving me 10mg tylenol loaded percocets 10x a day.. no way! he said they didnt make 15,30mg stuff.. anyway, im on 10 of the 15mg oxycodones a day and im tired of pills.. im tired of lyrika ( anti seizure med used for nerve pain) im tired anti inflammatories…. part of this is due too the fact that ive exhausted physical therapy, epidural injects, chiro care, and all im doing is graduating each year on pain meds to a stronger dose… ive been offered fentanyl, oxycontin, methadone, none of which i wish too endure… never! i dont know anymore if a pain pill clinic is for me? the top doc is an ortho surgeon and if you ask me, a man with a hammer will hit anything that looks like a nail… just like this dude, hes an awesome caring doc but hey, is surgery the answer? everyone ive met thats had back surgery, from laminectomies to minimally invasive laser disc jobs all are still eating pain meds and in pain….. how does a patient know what is best for treatment options? if i go too an ortho, he wants the knife… if i go too a pain clinic, they hand you oxycontin, if i go too a laser procedure joint, they will say laser me! is there really a way too heal and live a normal life after disc injuries? eating pain meds and visiting the doc for more rx’s is where im at… ive seen athletes come back and play pro football after disc injuries and i doubt they are living on oxycontin ea day… is their a solution of fix for disc injuries? surgery worries me, i know its just a 50/50 shot and they hope it works.. ive yet too see anyone say theyve had a successful procedure and quit pain meds… so do i accept that im on pain meds for the rest of my life and live with it?

i would like too get in a gym and exercise, aerobics, light weights? is this out of the question? working out/exercising and bodybuilding was daily thing for me.. i competed and now here i sit… woohooo! percocets! o boy! any atheletes out there?

What is the strongest OTC pain reliever?

My dad has chronic back pain from his herniated disc and he ran out of his prescription pain killers. His doctor is out of town for 2 weeks and he is to stubborn to go see any other doctor.

Hes in the room next to me screaming from the pain as I’m typing this. I have already given him Tylenol, and Ibuprofen, and he used Icy Hot, but nothing is working. What else should I try? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Hi, I have a herniated disc in my back.
I have an appointment with an orthopedic doctor in a week, but until then I’m left to deal with the pain alone.
I dunno exactly how it happened, but my back is constantly in terrible pain.
Would something like tylenol help?
Robax?
Okay, thanks, I’ll try it :)
Aha, wow, thanks.
Yes, I’m positive, I had an MRI done on it etc. etc.

Motrin, really? Thank you soooo much! I’ll try that instead :)
Thank you so much for the tips!

Gee, four surgeries? :( I’m sorry about that.
Ahh, I see.
I dunno what I’ll do.
They probably won’t put me on narcotics unless I REALLY want them (I’m 14)
:( I’m sorry for that, the pain is really terrible.

Diagnosed last week with Multi level disc degeneration disease-I have CONSTANT pain in my arms and legs and feet-I was prescribed gabapentin but I am not sure if it will work or if it will just leave me drugged out. I have to work everyday-and so far I haven’t been able to take anything that doesn’t make me drowsy-I am only taking Tylenol if there is another pain reliever that would help me during the day-please let me know what it is-Thanks!!
Why did you respond to a question you had no intention answering? I just gave you the specifics of my diagnosis-I have every intention of taking this medication but I just inquired if anyone else had any success with it. If you have NOT had any-don’t answer-that is why this is called ‘Yahoo Answers’

Back pain?

Im 32 weeks prego with my 2nd baby. With my first I had terrible back labor, starting around 29 weeks. With drugs we were able to hold it off untill 39 weeks. Right now I am having some discomfort in my lower back, it isnt as intense as my first ones back labor, but it is more than a normal sore back… I havent been having any noticeable contractions, but I cant help but feel that this pain is something I shouldnt look away from. I called my doc, and he said not to worry, nothing is happening. It just doesnt seem right. Have any of you gone into any kind of labor without noticing the first contractions, and having this same odd dull back pain? If you think it is nothing to worry about what can I do other than Tylenol to help the pain, I was told heating pads are something that shouldnt be used right now… Is that true? Lying in any positon fails to help the pain. Anything and everything will be a big help.
Hubby cant massage my back, he has MS so he is to weak to massage. (he’s so weak I was suprised we were able to make this baby!) Oh well… any other suggestions?

What can I do to get rid of lower back pain?

For a little over a week now I have had some lower back pain and it isn’t going away. I’ve tried taking tylenol and medications like that but nothing seems to be helping. Any ideas that could help this back pain?

How can I help my husbands back injury?

My husband hurt his back playing basketball 10 days ago. Up until Friday, he was able to walk around, but still with pain. All of a sudden he had excruciating pain on Friday morning, and he has been unable to leave bed since then. He keeps having muscle spasms, and I think it is sprained. He has been taking Tylenol and Doan’s for the pain. Also we’ve tried a heating pad, IcyHot, cold packs. What can I do to speed his recovery along? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Low back pain? Herniated disc???

Today I bent down to pick up a 24lb bag of cat litter and I heard a "pop" sound in my lower back. I started to get pain in my lower back and as the day progressed so has the pain to excruciating and I can’t even walk up straight because of the pain and I feel sickly to my stomach. I was wondering if anyone experienced this, I am thinking that I may have herniated a disc and plan to go to the doctor on Monday, I am hoping to stay away from the ER. Any opinions and advise would be great. Tylenol and Advil are not doing anything, I put Ice and hot water bottle and my husband tried to massage it, but that only made it feel worse. Thanx!!

Sciatica?!?

First of all, I have had no prior accidents or injuries.

Oh my god. I have had this terrible pinched nerve in my lower back for three days. It has gotten steadily worse and now I can hardly move due to pain. It hurts to walk, sit or stand. I have tried taking Motrin, Tylenol Extra Strength Rapid Release, and 800mg of Ibuprofen. The Ibuprofen did not even touch the pain! I have an appointment at 3pm today, but I was wondering if this pain was normal. I get a shooting pain down both my cheeks as well. Anyone know if this could be a normal pinched nerve, or a slipped disc or something?
