I took my ferret into the vet today and he was given a cortisone shot to help with his sneezing. Since we’ve been home he’s been sleeping a lot and seems a little spacey. Is this a normal reaction in ferrets to cortisone?

My friends dog woke up this morning and could not walk on her hind legs. We’ve checked for ticks and found none and there has been no trauma. What else could cause this kind of paralysis?
Okay, not my dog! Vet was called and they said to bring her in first thing in the morning.

We don’t know how it happened . He was playing one minute in the back yard then something happened and he was yowling screaming and dragging his back legs ,
He is a very playful happy 9 year old shepard cross of medium weight .
He is at the vet right now . I don’t have a very large income and live on a pension ( I am 58 years old and a widow who shares rent with my Nephew ).
I am looking for a used wheel chair for him but do not know how to care for him when he gets home . He will be at the Vet for a very long time ( at least two weeks or more ). He has so much life and wants to live but will no doubt be paralyzed in his back legs .
I really need advice

There are vets here but none that specialize in small animals. What type of ointments can I put on a gerbils injury? I would love non-prescription but will ask my vet for anything you may have had luck with, prescription or non-prescription medicines.

My dog has a ruptured Anterior ligament in her left knee. The vet advises us to take her for surgery but we hear bad things about this surgery. I don’t want my pet euthanized for that but I also don’t want this surgery done. She is 85 lbs and has been on diets as well. My husband thinks we should "put her down". I feel we shouldn’t.

My 5 year old Corgi injured his back about 4 days ago. He has had limited use of his rear legs since. This morning I was going to take him to the vet, but he seemed to have improved movement. While at work the kids left the basement door open and he went down the stairs re-injuring himself. He is going to the vet first thing tomorrow. I was curious he heat would help or hurt?

My father-in-law was recently diagnosed with mesothelioma. He is a disabled vet on a limited income. The life expectancy is only 4-18 months. He and my mother-in-law have filed a lawsuit against the asbestos manufacturer. The concern is that they have very little money and without compensation we are afraid that my mother-in-law will lose their house when he passes. Does anyone have experience with this?
Thanks for answering. The lawyer says that because he has the disease that we have a good case. Mesothelioma is caused almost exclusively by asbestos exposure.
We have filed the suit against the manufacturer because we believe that he was exposed while working in the boiler room while in the army and suing the army just isn’t an option.
The lawyer we have retained has been involved with thousands of these cases. He has given us examples of awards won by his law firm, but I want to know what the chances are of not winning.

My 3 year old yorkie hasn’t been able to walk on her own for 10 days now, since we noticed it last tuesday the 21st we took her to a vet, we thought it was broken or sprained so we wanted to discard any possibilities. He gave her pain meds and said it wasn’t broken (that was our worry) but if we wanted to be sure we can go to a vet with xray machines as he didnt have any tech on site and would refer us to one who did. So we went and he took xrays and said the problem is not her leg, but her spinal cord, he showed us the xray and said there was spots something generic, im not quite sure i was so nervouse and just wanted to get out, that i just wanted to know if it was something curable he said it is, but the dog has to be isolated and peeing and pooping on her own, but there is a ball on the side of her stomach/rib area that is worrying me, could it be from the shots? or is that part of what is causing the lameness on her leg, the vet gave her prednizone but until this day, going to be a week tomorrow my dog still can not walk. Im worried that things can be more serious, so i want to know if anyone has experienced this or knows any information. it would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thank You, God Bless!
I meant vet said it was something hereditary NOT generic*
Also, when she barks she whimpers more than anything, (like it hurts her) she is the same playful yorkie, but just cant move due to only her right leg being moveable
if she is ;eft at home alone for a long time she goes to the bathroom on the bed, blankets etc. she hasnt lost her appetite and is drinking lots of water and eating alot more than normal, she rarely sleeps at night and mainly rests throughout the day. i know shes in pain, so what can we do??
*****I KNOW NO ONE CAN GIVE ME A REALIABLE AND DIAGNOSE OVER THE INTERNET, THATS WHY I SAID… HAS THIS EVER HAPPENED TO ANY OF YOUR DOGS?*****
It’s not that i am annoyed, and i know this isnt a place to find solutions, and/or help treat anything.. i just wanted to know if anyone went through the same thing, and as per your prior experience Gail, i will choose you as best answer THANKS Everyone..
My dog is walking much better now, not as much lameness on her leg, check up is on tuesday (10 days) i will be prepared!! Thanks!

My friends young cat (4 months old) broke his leg from jumping up to a counter. She took the kitten to a vet that kept putting the kitten in only splints of which he was able to come out of rather quickly. Now, because of this, this poor kitten is in the hospital getting pins in his leg. My friend is crying her eyes out over this. The kitten is her baby. She lives in northern Illinois. What are her options? What are her rights? This was a total accident because the kitten wanted to go someplace where he shouldnt have been. My friend was asleep when this happened so there was absolutely no abuse involved. She would give up her arms for this kitten.
Please, serious answers only. We really need your help here.
Please dont say that animals are property. They more often than not, family members. We love our pets like kids and my friend is extremely worried about her little baby kitten. Please please please, we need real advice here about what she can do about the vet that didnt give this kitten the care he deserved.
We are looking for what her rights are in regards to the way the first vet didnt give the proper treatment to the kitten. Please read all the details I gave. Its all the info I have and my friend doesnt have access to a computer.
This first vet didnt give the right treatment in the first place and because of this, the kitten is now getting the pins in his leg.

I am taking care of a three month old kitten who managed to get a cut on his eyeball, have it get infected, and basically pop. His mom was a new mom and didn’t clean it.
I have called around asking for the most it would cost to remove a ruptured eyeball but no vets are giving an answer. We need to know cause my boyfriend is adopting the cat and paying for the surgery. On the other hand, he is in another country. We obviously cannot fly him cause of his eye. It is just a ruptured eyeball….doesn’t bother him or hurt.
he wasn’t my cat to begin with….
and no I don’t think its bothering him….he doesn’t scratch at it, he plays with his brother, and even rubs his face on your hand….like a normal cat. In fact I don’t think he notices it at all…..
and maybe if people understood getting cats spayed then maybe this wouldn’t happen. Just want an estimate….so the money can be sent and we could get him in to the operating room the day we see the vet.
and yes…mom cat….not previous owner…but his actual mother.
and no you can’t guilt trip me into feeling bad =]

She is an 8 week old basset and she fell going down the stairs on our porch. She doesn’t seem to be in any pain, but she holds her head to left all of the time and she doesn’t have much control over her back left leg. The vet said to keep her in a crate for a month and give her an anti-inflammatory. If that doesn’t work she will need surgery. I can’t afford the surgery (between 2,000 and 4,000 dollars), does anyone else have any suggestions?
Yes, she can still wag her tail. She gets around ok, but she falls a lot. The surgery that was recommended would basically be putting pins and screws in her neck to straighten it out.

My dog started having some issues Thursday night with not walking around as much (she’s a very hyper, healthy girl) and so I stayed up with her and she got progressively worse till I convinced my mom to take her to the vet. They ran all kinds of tests on her and concluded that she must have hurt herself somehow and gave her a shot of buprenex and sent her home where she did not move (we never left her alone at all) for over 24 hours to the point of urinating on herself. She would only eat peanut butter off a spoon and would only drink water from a ladle held under her mouth, but drank at least two bowl fulls total. The vet kept telling us it could be up to 24 hours before she started getting up, but she didn’t, so we took her to the vet again today and they ran a ton more tests and said all vitals are perfect and all organs are perfect but she has one area on her spine that looks swollen and hurt so they’re trying steroids tonight and transferring her back to her regular vet tomorrow to make sure it’s working. She can now walk a little with assistance when forced and all legs are functioning. She’s also much more alert but obviously in severe pain. But I have no clue what could have happened to her-she’s NEVER once in her entire life been outside without a leash or anything and she’s our only dog, so how in the world could she get hurt? The only thing we could think was she fell down the stairs. And what can I do to help her heal? Does she need a doggie wheelchair or a sling or something while she recuperates? She’s a big dog (55 pounds) and that’s a lot of weight for her to have to support. Maybe I could do some type of physical therapy or massage therapy?
