We don’t know how it happened . He was playing one minute in the back yard then something happened and he was yowling screaming and dragging his back legs ,
He is a very playful happy 9 year old shepard cross of medium weight .
He is at the vet right now . I don’t have a very large income and live on a pension ( I am 58 years old and a widow who shares rent with my Nephew ).
I am looking for a used wheel chair for him but do not know how to care for him when he gets home . He will be at the Vet for a very long time ( at least two weeks or more ). He has so much life and wants to live but will no doubt be paralyzed in his back legs .
I really need advice
I copied this and posted it under Pets too
Well he has such spirit and if he could have he would have jumped up and knocked me down licking my face he was so happy to see me at the vets . He howled when I left .

I am taking care of a three month old kitten who managed to get a cut on his eyeball, have it get infected, and basically pop. His mom was a new mom and didn’t clean it.

I have called around asking for the most it would cost to remove a ruptured eyeball but no vets are giving an answer. We need to know cause my boyfriend is adopting the cat and paying for the surgery. On the other hand, he is in another country. We obviously cannot fly him cause of his eye. It is just a ruptured eyeball….doesn’t bother him or hurt.
he wasn’t my cat to begin with….

and no I don’t think its bothering him….he doesn’t scratch at it, he plays with his brother, and even rubs his face on your hand….like a normal cat. In fact I don’t think he notices it at all…..

and maybe if people understood getting cats spayed then maybe this wouldn’t happen. Just want an estimate….so the money can be sent and we could get him in to the operating room the day we see the vet.
and yes…mom cat….not previous owner…but his actual mother.

and no you can’t guilt trip me into feeling bad =]

Will a dog's spinal injury heal?

We have a rescued dog that may have been hit by a car. Our vet told us that a dog’s spinal injury may heal over time and that we need to give him some time. He can not walk or stand up. But he is alert and eating and drinking well. He can stretch his legs but nothing else. Even the second opinion vet said it "might" heal. Any one out there know more about this?
He can’t stand, none of his legs work right now. It isn’t that I don’t trust the vet’s opinions. I just think personal experience would help more in this situation. We’ve rescued for years and some vets will simply send a dog home to die. It’s happened to us. So I want to hear about real life experiences.

The vet gave her a non swelling. He used acupunture. The vets have not experience in hamsters in my country.

vets say my dog has a slipped disc?

the vets say my dog (chihuahua boy) has a slipped disc and is semi paralysd.
he cannot walk on his right leg, but has got feeling in all his legs and can stand perfectly well on all 4 legs but he has problems walking.
i have got some anti inflamitry tablets off the vets.
what are the chances of them working for him and him walking again?
they have said that if they dont work he may have to have surgory and its looking into the thousands. they havnt done any xrays on his legs/hips/spine but they are determind that its his spine.
what are the chances of him recoverying without surgory?
the operation is pretty risky, i want him to recover without surgory and was also wondering how long it would take 4 him to recover without surgory, and what can i do to help him?
hes only 2years old and it happend on sunday and we got him to the vets on monday and then they asked us 2 come back on the tuesday and they said he had improved, he was there yesterday and they said he improved again.
Also when he went in the bath his right leg kinda flopped out to the side like there was nothing there, but he is standing and has feeling in his legs, he isnt crying to show hes in pain or anything, and on the back of his legs theres a tendan or bone, it joins from his thigh to his little part of his leg and his right one is really elasticy and the left one is really hard, and its his right leg he has problems with could this be part of the problem? im not back up to the vets till monday.

Slipped Disc in Cocker Spaniel-Previcox?

Back in April of this year, my 6 year old dog slipped a disc in his back climbing a flight of stairs. We have lots of stairs at our house so I’m assuming that took it’s toll on him. He was put on prednisone for about 3 weeks and was much much better. Well, Sunday morning, he was following me upstairs and he started crying again. And the way he was walking, I knew it happened again. I called the vet and she said that apparently this is going to be a chronic thing with him and wanted to put him on a daily anti-inflammatory–she gave him Previcox.
My question is, I know it’s for arthritis, but is it ok for slipped discs? What i’ve read about Previcox is not good and I don’t know that I want to put my dog on it long-term. Anybody have any suggestions? Obviously, we are blocking off the stairs so he want be able to climb them anymore, but is there something for effective and safer for him? I want to trust my vet but gosh the horror stories are making me very hesitant. I love my dog and have babied him since I got him and I don’t want to do anything that will harm him, but I also don’t want him to be in pain. I know you guys aren’t vets, but sometimes it seems they are more concerned about pushing medicine and getting the freebies. Any thoughts anybody?
I was just asking for suggestions and input from anybody who had any experience with previcox. I do trust my vet but it is my understanding that this drug is new and if you read my question you can see that I have googled previcox. I wanted to hear from anybody who knew of it. My vet didn’t mention anything about having blood tests done before him taking it nor did she mention it to me at all. As she was walking off, I ask her if we needed to follow up and she said maybe do a blood test in a couple of months! I’ve never been one to do hollistic stuff mainly b/c I don’t know much about it, but if there is an alternative that is safer for him, I’ll definitely try it. The only steps he will be climbing from now on will be the 2 little ones going outside when he goes to the bathroom. I want him to still be able to run and play and if this drug is the only thing that will help him, I’ll give it to him.

How long did it take to heal? Did you have to take time off work to help your dog? Any advice?
Yes, we took her to the vets this afternoon. They did x-rays and discovered the slipped disc. They gave her a steriod shot and an opiate prescription. We are so concerned right now because she is progressively getting worse. She cannot use her hind legs tonight and I do not think the vet thought it would be this bad, or was I just underestimating the problem?
